So my front drivers side window no longer goes down.. I opened the trim and found that the wires are frayed and wire gets stuck every time i try putting the window down. Looks like I need to replace wire. Anyone done this? Where can I get a replacement wire from and is it hard to replace? Please help.

I had a simular problem with my drivers side window. I bought the whole mechanism, from memeory it cost me 120 2nd hand. Bout 1000 screws later, i had it R and R'd. Easy job but time consuming with all the different screws.

Not that i know of.
You probably could just remove the wire and use your own but a whole new frame etc would be the way to go.
Whats stopping it from going down, is it jammed? (motor still works?)

I had a same problem in my TJ, but decided to replace it with a second hand one from the wreckers ($70). It looked like a whole days work to try to fix the wire and then the plastic holders looked cracked, so it may be a better investment to source a second hand one and save yourself a whole lot of headache.

The cable looks like fairly standard pushbike brake wire! Should be possible to make a new one, with a bit of work, and if there is no other damage to the plastic bits. Take photos if you attempt this job!

Had this problem on my TJII a couple of years ago.
It is possible to buy a reco unit - try Google.
But the genuine, and improved, part from Mitsu is about $20 more expensive.
This design is obviously much better.

its just the cable .. because its frayed its stopping from turning around.. the window comes down about 2 cm, then stops when the frayed part gets stuck.. it was down when it broke and i had to pull the window while pressing button and it got up. If i can remove the whole setup, i think i can replace the wire, just wondering if i do..will window just fall down? or can i remove and work on it until happy, then just screw it back in? there don't seem to be many screws holding it in door, just looks hard as its obviously tensioned a certain way.. all other windows work perfectly.

You'll have to hold the window up in the meantime with some wood or something.
I'd just replace the motor and whole mechanism mate, for the $70-$100 it'll cost for another one it'll take you 3 hours + to re-wind the wire, and your time is more valuable then that IMO..

take time to find a replacement too though.. i hate trawling through wreckers, plus i've never seen a magna higher than a 01 at wreckers.. i was thinking if i could just take it all out, use same motor and buy just the wire..

Did you end up getting a replacement regulator? If so, and you still have the old bits, I wouldn't mind buying the motor for my KJ Verada (the gears are stripped).
