Hey guys,

I know i dont come onto the forum much, and when i do its pretty much only for technical advice..

I have a TE magna. The clutch is rooted so i am trying to take the gearbox out and replace / inspect the clutch. I have taken all bellhousing bolts off, all hoses and connections so nothing is holding the gearbox on {i can wriggle it and move it slightly} but the gearbox wont come off the spline? it seems like the throw out bearing has seized on the shaft or the shaft has bent slightly causing the throw out bearing not to slide off ..... :eek2:. It was in neutral when i pulled the clutch cable off, so i doubt its in gear

I just dont understand... ive tried pulling / wriggling the crap out of it, and it doesnt want to budge! its about 2 cm from the engine itself, but thats as far as it will go.. im all out of ideas..

If anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate that!

Thanks in advance,

James.

have you disconnected the throwout bearing?

And yes, the slave cylinar needs to come off, but it is only 2 bolts, and no hoses need to be undone, so there is no fluid loss.

also, did you remove the stater motor, and remove the bolt under the dizzy, (it is hard to see)

To disconnect the throwout bearing you need to pull the fork the opposite to normal direction [bearing should compress against the pressure plate, and flatten the wave washer], and then reach into the inspection hole at the top (you pull out one of the breathers, theres also an inspection hole at the bottom, with a bit of rubber over it) - put a flat blade in between the throwout and the wave spring and twist sideways should come out.. practice on the new clutch if you have a full kit to get the idea... on mine the bottom hole didn't work but the top did.. if you can get someone to give you a hand do both at once as per mitsu recommendation.

Here's a good guide bellto - http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69080&highlight=clutch&page=2

Also mind your drivers drive shaft bracket - the bolts are different totally in thread to the gearbox and is mistakable as it looks very similar.. on my TL the bracket bolts had red paint on them, where as the bell housing bolts didn't.

Feel free to give me a call on 0415 924 736 if you need any advice 9AM-9PM WA time (-2-3 hours) [just did the clutch in my TL last 3 days]

As above - your problem is the clutch release bearing. Pop that with a screwdriver and by pulling the lever as described and you'll be fine. Don't try to force it off.

Make sure you force the gearbox back against the motor first. Bolt in the top to hold it.

Hehe had another person call today for advice on this.

Here's the best URL for info on it, from Exedy:
