View Full Version : Rear rotor removal
Hi Guys
Im trying to remove the rear brake rotors on my TJII VRX. I've got the workshop manual but i still cant seem to find the answer. I've removed the caliper on the rotor but i cant get the rotor off after that. Am i missing a step? I've searched the forums and i cant find the answer to this? Should i just keep hammering till it comes off? I've also loosened the handbrake adjuster so thats not the problem.

It will be the brake shoes inside the drum that are preventing you from removing it. These are for the handbrake. You need to loosen them off so the rotor will come away. There is a hole in the rotor where you can stick a screwdriver in to turn the shoe adjuster. See Chapter 36 in the Magna Workshop manual - Parking Brakes for diagrams and instructions.

I've already loosened the handbrake adjuster through the hole in the disk. its still wont budge. Do you think it may just be stuck from dirt and grit and i should just try and loosen it by banging it with a mallet?

there are two holes on the rotor between the lug nuts you can thread a long bolt into and tighten evenly to push it off.
thanks guys. i got it. Just sprayed a little WD40 around the centre of the rotor and banged it off with a rubber mallet.

by the sounds of it was the handbrake shoes thats still holding the rotor in place... same issue we encounted when we were changing the rear rotors of Type40's car.. bit of WD40 and the likes and some persuasion like you did would have done the trick :)

wouldnt the WD40 contaminate the brake shoes ? i suppose not much of an issue as only for park brake. I had a huge front brake inbalance due to the drivers side pads been contaminated with something and not gripping.
