so the new computer didn't fix all your bugs with your gearbox

When you take off in drive, does the car still go through all the gears, ie 1st to 3rd or od?

yep. if I take off it L 2 or D it goes 1st to O/D

Strange then, as the TCU will usually stop shifting occuring, this will also make the car feel like a slug off the line as it will be locked in third,

So yo are sure you can see the tach reduce as gears change and you are not just assuming it is ok

Also, check your TPS, this can confuse the hell out of the TCU if all is out of wack or not working

yeah... the rpm change is pretty noticeable its definitely shifting lol.

it was in limp mode for 9 months so I know how that drives. I'll start with a trans service. its probably long overdue...

actually I get stalling after a short car running, car off 10 minutes, car on, so TPS maybe stuffed? also reverse is VERY slippy, drops in and out always.... (only when the TCU is getting power)

Umm so let me get this right, you drove it around for 9 months in limp mode

This will most likely be your issue then, if was like that for that long the clutch packs will be burnt to hell.

yeah. my father bought the car for me like that. was the first auto I'd ever driven first magna I'd ever been in and really had no idea anything was wrong.

thanks for giving me a sensible reason for it being ****ed I'm sick of electronic reasons.

I have no idea how long its been in limp mode, but considering the problem was a fuse... too long...

now do I
1) get the clutch packs done
2) DIY
3) screw it and wait to get a new ride...

hmmmm

If it is in limp home mode you have a stuff computer. New computer will fix it, and is simple to replace. But i wouldn't have a clue to replace the clutch pack. Maybe it might be cheaper to replace gearbox.

not always clearly. I've heard of a camry in limp mode because of a blown brake light....

and in my case I just needed a new fuse...

When my car was in limp mode, I couldn't go more than 60 kph. I ended up having to get a new computer and now she runs like a dream sorta.

Why dont you
1) Find computer that works (cant help only have V6 TCU's) Dont go to mitsu they want $1300 for one.
2) Failing that, replace your trans, automatics are easy as to change. no lining up of clutch's :) And autos are cheap as hell.

Wow it going from bad worst, that some bad luck. I know what you mean about 2nd gen. The 380 seem like they got problem but 3rd gen seem like a good deal.

Second gens are worth keeping on the road - I will fight anyone who says otherwise! lol

A second hand 380 will be worth the money, in a few years, when the current owners have sorted out (and paid for) all the problems they seem to be having! lol
