Hi Guys,
I currently have a 10" Pioneer sub. The wires have broken off the back of the sub and I have now soldered it twice. Next time it breaks I will be purchasing a new one. However, I was after some recommendations on good subs etc.
I have the sub box, but I am even thinking it will be cheaper to buy a whole box/sub setup.
What is the opinion of Fusion subs? Coming from a female perspective, some look really pretty. hahahaha
Any advice/opinions would be fantastic.
I do currently love the 10" but information on recommended setups is also appreciated!
Cheers Kate

Hey there,
How much power ( or the model of the amp ) are you using to run the sub?
Would be good to also know the size your sub box and your budget.... :D

What Style of music you into ??
If your a classical Lover then go Infinity.
If your a Hard Rocker then go Rockford Fosgate
If your an all rounder then hell the market is your Oyster...
The Style of music you listen to can assist in making the critical decision between what enclosure to get and also what size to go for..

budget... no more than $300 probably.
Sub box is.. ummm. enough for one 10" sub?
I'm not entirely sure what amp it is... inherited it from someone, having issues finding the model number. maximum 600watt from what my bro tells me... all i can say is that its orange! sigh. feeling rather inept atm.

you can always check out everyones boots at the meet and see heaps of different types, sizes, singles, twins,
Orange might mean that it's a 'Cadence' brand - they seem to be alright quality wise. Definitely 5 steps (or more) above BOSS. :)
If you're at all fussy about your sound, then there's many options available to you, so don't write off your current box straight away.
1) enclosure style - sealed = tight controlled bass. Ported = more volume but a bit 'muddy' sounding. Bandpass = maximum volume, maximum fluffy sound.
2) sub size - 10" = fast response, small air movement, 12" = medium, 15" = slow response, big air movement (more air movement ~= more SPL)
I've got a 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch in a sealed box and just bought a 10" 'Bazooka' which is a ported box.
The ported 10" sounds more 'musical' than the 12" and I actually like it and am keeping it in the car for now.
For me, the 10" sub's maximum output is HUGE and I don't run it near it's limits. It's powered by an amp good for about 250W RMS.
I used to have 2x 12" subs in a bandpass box with an Alpine amp that delivered just 150W RMS and they worked perfectly fine on that relatively low power (~75W each) and were very loud.
It was good enough for me when I was young and definitely caused permanent hearing loss. SPL comp recorded 134.5dB in 2 different cars.
So if you like your back massages then get 2x 12" subs in a ported or bandpass box and put it on the back seat :)
Or a 10" IMO can do a very good job.
As for brands, Fusion was a good brand, I don't know if they still are, or if they just have their good and less good products like many manufacturers.
Once you know what sound you like, then audition some different subs and see how they sound to you with your music.
And as for price, I paid $120 for my 'Bazooka' (2nd hand) and I'm pretty happy with that.

That is the best idea.
Being in SA you are probably a bit more limited to brands unfortunately. Have a listen and see what you like the sound of. If your happy to do away with your existing 10inch box, have a look at some 12inch subs as well. :D

I have a Vibe Blackair 12" which a bit over your budget. Nice sounding sub, I am very happy with it.
The 10" Slick is a nice sub for the price.

did you want if brand new?
cos if you dont mind second hand, then you may be able to pick up a better sub like a JL audio or Alpine Type R. that said you prob best inspectin before you buy.
my mate bought 2 type R subs $ 300. but you need to keep your eyes peeled....
If you're happy to go 2nd hand, try out the "Mobile Electronics Australia" forum - I haven't seen much crop up in S.A. but this is where I got my recent purchase from.
Here's a couple of subs for sale just across the border from you - Melton and Lynbrook - maybe they're 600kms away or maybe only a short road trip? Next SA AMC cruise perhaps? :)
First, "Alpine Bass 200 12" Subwoofers X2".
Not a pretty example, but it might perform well and be a simple project to tidy up - a covering plus 2x grills and it's sweet.

Second "Kicker Comp VR Subwoofer's x2 12" Dual 2 ohms" in an MDF sub box. Again not pretty, but probably VERY functional and covering a box isn't hard. Doing it well might be, but not impossible :)

The beauty of those 2x12" sub setups, the price is just $120.

Thanks for the offer and the info! For about three days my current sub decided to work and had me hoping it was fixed, however, it has spat it again. I am now looking around and working out what I want. Thanks for the advice and I'll get in contact with Joe if there's anything on there I think I like the look off. And thanks for the 2nd hand link. Im more keen to go new this time so that I know how the sub has been treated. This one was 2nd hand and lasted great for over a year, but hoping to get more than that out of one! :)
