hi all
i did a timing belt change on our TJ and noticed red paint on the large bolt ( head ) holding down the tensioner bearing. when i retorqued the bolt as per the manual ( 50nm i think ) the bolt stretched!. maybe i was overtightening bit but it didnt feel like it at the time. lucky the bolt didnt break off in the block.
the old bolt was unuseable so i got another one from the wreckers which torqued up fine.

is there something ive done wrong? like maybe you are supposed to replace the red bolts?

may have been locklight thread locking glue

i guess its possible that the loctite was giving me a false torque reading. dont remember any residue on the threads though

The red paint paint on the bolt head is for checking on the production line, the socket on the torque wrench has foam pad with paint in it so quality can see it's been torqued up. Had the bellt been changed before? maybe some one before you over tightened. Well spotted could've been a disaster.
