I was driving my car home, as I was turning I thought it would be a good idea to gun it out of the corner. When I settled down I noticed that there was a crazy ticking noise happening in the engine. So when I got home I popped the bonnet and noticed that it was not the fan hitting any thing. Then I checked my oil and it didn't even come up on the dipstick. My car had about 1litre of oil left in it. But the weird thing is that I checked the oil when I bought the car back in November 2009 and it was full( I really should check it monthly, but it slips my mind so easy). I still have warranty so if there is a problem I'm covered.
Anyone else had something similar happen?

Dad would be so happy that i gunned it out of that corner. Saved alot of money:woot:

seems like we have encounted a few 380 with using a bit of oil when running... could be an issue.. hmmm.. bring up the issue with your dealership next time you bring it in, see what they tell you.

Hmmm.... I'd be rethinking that "I'm covered bit" and "Dad would be so happy..."

If the car has missed any of the recommended service schedules or Mitsubishi think it is negligence on your behalf that Warranty may not be honoured. Better read the small print. :ninja:

Oh god, I am not liking the sound of these oil problems everyone is experiencing. :(

I havnt had any yet, but I get my car serviced at a Mitsubishi dealer if that makes any difference.

No oil problems here. All services done by same dealer with only their oil.

Mine has a complete service history. And i think its clearly an oil leak that has not been caused buy gunning cause i am trying to get a heaps good economy reading so i drive normal most the time. p.s. I'm down to 12.7L. but ill keep an eye on it, I've got till December for my warranty.
I hope its only a one off thing, my last car ran out of coolant heaps quick once, but only once I'm still wondering what happened???

OK ..you just need to get into a routine of checking the basics each week. Oil /Coolant / Tyres / power steering / auto trans oil / brake oil etc
Listen to the engine when it starts up each morning, get used to how your car should feel. When something goes it can go very quickly.

these sorts of problems in 380s have turned me off them big time... why so many quality issues with them?

Let's not start wringing hands here.

Don't forget most of our cars are NOT experiencing oil problems - including the S/C cars.

There are always going to be a few engines with problems - nature of the beast and Straty may not even be one of those; it could be just an unfortunate leak. Let's find out the facts first.

Touch wood I have not experienced any of the problems I have read about on here except the notorious squeeky brake problem.

Any problems I have had have been self inflicted during my Supercharger install learning curve.

I drive my 380 harder than my other cars because I enjoy the ride and the engine is so responsive with the few mods I have done. 68000k and doesnt use a drop of oil between changes. I do change oil and filter every 6000k as most of my trips are short stop start. After leaving work this afternoon I just took off for a real quick fast drive to the Barossa just for the hell of it. Great car.

hasnt there been a number of engine rebuilds required under warranty in the 380s???

I only know of blackstar's engine rebuild on the forums... I don't think there have been any others.
I also haven't had any major problems with my car yet(other than the battery dying once).

The only thing I'm really concerned about is that ticking noise the engine makes, ya know like a diesel engine (dealers say there isn't a problem)..

and in case anyone was wondering, my oil level is fine. haven't changed/topped up since early JAN with the 90K service. (using Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40).

And just to add to that; Blackstar's engine was related to oil starvation under hi revs in through hi G corners - no baffled sump. Hardly a Mitsubishi design problem as this "feature" is also manifest on every other family car engine including the G74.

the ticking noise is gone now and there were no oil drops left ob the driveway from last night or in the car park i was in today while i was at work. And also the oil is still full. my car had its major 30000k service 2000kms ago so it shouldn't be a filter problem i hope cause that would make a faulty filter which is just annoying. Ill keep an eye on it for a bit.

Mate let me tell u, it's ur drivin style take it easy on her n she'll be fine
And HRD2GT its not my driving style, i do take it easy.

It could be a filter problem it may not have been correctly fitted ... I'd get it checked it is unusual that you lost so much oil
if your last service was only 2k away.
