I'm looking at getting a set of American Racing chrome rims. Now, before i commit myself does anyone have any beef the brand? Anyone heard of them flaking? Or are they, like, the shiz and worth a fortune?

from what i gather you can get chrome sprayed wheels and you can get solid chrome.
the solid chrome is dear but doesnt chip/peel easy whereas the coated ones do (say if a small rock hits it)
mags like BSA etc are all sprayed i think and from last i heard good solid chrome wheels are like $500-600 each

Even though shadow chromes meant to be "in" there arent half as many rims available shadow chrome as there is chrome or even silver. Doesnt matter what colour you go anyhow, its how well the rims suit the car and match the style you are going for. Id suggest avoid deep dish unless your willing to get at least 19's. They just look small on any car and the magnas huge wheelarches dont help one bit. Look for something with the spokes going to the complete end of the rim. Makes the rims look huge!
Anyhow theres my offtopic 2c. No idea about the quality of chrome apart from its a ***** to clean.

Yes there's chrome dipped/sprayed and chrome plated, of which the latter is definately more durable. Many cheap chrome wheels, BSA, CSA, etc are only dipped/sprayed. IMHO wheels look better when they contrast the color of the car, E.g. black wheels on a black or dark car look sh1t, but look great on a white, silver, yellow car.
The only disadvantage to having wheels with spokes that go right to the edges is that the tyre fitter has to take extra care, unlike mine when they gouged 2 of my wheels pretty badly (they sent them to be repaired and it doesn't look 100% now but probably 95% since).

i gots deep dish with machined/polished lip!! and also, if you're gonna go that large, make sure that the centre of the rim is not too thin, it just highlights the absurdly small brakes magna's have.... :D
