Hi,
Does anybody have a non factory bluetooth kit? I am looking at getting either one of the Parrot kits (I know Parrot make the OEM kit) or one from a company called Ego.
Just wondering about the harness used to connect a different kit to the 380. I think I can source a harness from the US basing my order on the Galant. Is this a good option?
You can get a good bluetooth kit online, but then I suspect the harness is needed.

Not sure if this is helpful or not - but here goes!
I have a KJ and a TJ. When Telstra axed CDMA and were trying to tempt users onto NextG network, they gave me a Parrot CK 3100 Bluetooth car kit with the new phone.
This kit is intended to be wired-in BETWEEN the factory audio loom connector and the head unit........ the interfacing connectors in the Parrot kit are ISO connectors - two rectangular plugs (one mainly power, the other for audio/speaker wires). So there are two "male" ISO connectors and two "female" ISO connectors.
It looked impossible for a while (a misprint in the fairly scant Parrot wiring diagrams did not help)..... then I discovered that Aerpro and other companies make "wiring loom adaptors" which I could buy off-the-shelf to convert a Mitsubishi wiring loom audio connector to ISO conectors, and a corresponding ISO-to-Mitsubishi Head-unit wiring adaptor.
Parrot is a French company, so I would be amazed if they had any products which do NOT use the ISO connectors. (Its apparently fairly common to see these used on Euro cars, but I'd never seen them before). There are little offset tabs in the power connector and speaker connector which are placed slightly differently....... making it impossible to connect them wrongly (but, apart from these tabs, the two connectors used are identical size and layout).
Parrot kit does not have its own speaker like Nokia kit does, Parrot control box feeds its own audio signal to your standard speakers - muting your head-unit if you connect that feature up. (Even if you ignore the Mute connection, Parrot control box will "intercept" your audio and feed its own audio thru your speakers - but in that case your CD etc would not pause while Parrot had control).
In the case of Parrot, I'd be very confident that any Mitsi-to-ISO and ISO-to-Mitsi wiring loom adaptor would get you out of trouble. If you have aftermarket audio, you can get "audio-brand-to-ISO" and "ISO-to-audio-brand" as well.

Lots of discussion about bluetooth, click Search > Avanced Search > Type bluetooth and search in the 380 Section.

Thanks Elwyn, that sounds interesting. It sounds like the ISO cable for the 380 will fit the Parrot and maybe the Ego unit too. Both are much the same, with screens and support for contacts in the unit for voice dialing etc. I may stick with the Parrot as I already know how to use it. Interesting thing is that in the XR8 when the Parrot mutes the stereo it does actually pause the cd if it's in use. Must be a feature of the Ford bluetooth integration.
Shoot, did the search, no discussions of the wiring harnesses. People either have the factory kit, spliced a kit into their cars (which I don't want to do) or someone else installed their aftermarket kit so no info on how it was done.

I hope the harness fits, it would make things easier in the future.

Genebaby,
My Parrot kit had a "variable" option for the mute wire (seems that ISO isn't quite "standard" and 3 possibilities for pinout of Mute wire were possible).
At one stage I used a TJ Series 1 HU and think I must have used the mute function - head-unit went into TEL mode.
Then I shifted the Parrot into a KJ (took a while to get this sorted, had issues with the 'constant 12V/memory' wire and 'switched 12V/ign' wire being transposed). I think, but can't really remember, that I ignored Parrot's options for mute wire placement, and just ran that wire to the Phone Kit Connector" under the lower-console in 3rd Gens. As I mostly use an iPod in the cars, the mute/pause function won;t work on my KJ HU anyway. I've since upgraded my TJ to have identical Verada HU and in-dash 6-stacker, and the same Parrot kit.
If the 380 uses the dreaded ISO connectors for connecting the audio system, then I think you will have an easy time, and prob not need adaptor harnesses at all. (Don't mind me, I just find the ISO things a bit confusing). In any case, Google of Aerpro will bring up the website and they have an online catalogue of their products, including the wiring loom adaptors. When I bought (a few years back) the wiring adaptors were priced from about $16- to $25- depending on product and its retail source.

Thanks for the extra info. I am now tossing up Factory kit, or a Parrot.......hmmmm....whenever I drive the XR8 I find it so convenient to have the Parrot with voice dialing.

Isn't the 380 Factory kit a Parrot kit anyway, just integrated into 380? I think old threads in here might also mention Firmware revisions for the "380/Parrot" integrated kit? I never took a lot of notice, as I'm in 3rd gens and not that keen on the 380 - plain looks and more thirst (IMHO).
The trick would be, finding what features the factory 380 kit gets, and what Parrot products are available with similar/more features at what cost.
In my case, the Parrot kit was a "sweetener" that Telstra gave away to tempt folks onto NextG (which I find to be a crap network, btw) - it was alleged to be worth $399- at the time. A year or two later I thought would be noice to have both cars with same audio and phone kit, so off I went to EBay - reasoning that others may not have used their Telstra give-away kit, and I was delighted to get my second kit for a good price, mint in-box. Think I paid $100- or so.
My Parrot kit doesn't integrate overly well with my Samsung Handset - loading Contacts is not automatic (more like traumatic), it doesn't automatically connect when I start the car (but is a simple process)..... that's more an issue between Parrot and that model of Samsung (SGH-a701). Oh, on that phone the Parrot LCD doesn't give a meaningful display of network reception (it says it great whenever phone is connected to kit, even tho there may be nil network signal).
Also for my (rural) purposes, the Parrot kits do not connect to an external antenna (nor does my particular handset).... so Telstra loses much face (this was before they began rating handsets for rural coverage abilities).
To be honest, I have never used the voice-dialling function - thanks for reminding me!

Ok, anybody recognise this plug as being in a 380?

I asked the seller and they said to check the car but I've no idea where to look.

Ooh, I think it's the same plug?....maybe?....lol.....the adaptor isn't too expensive which is lucky, I've seen them in the US for a lot more.

Hi guys, in the end I now have a new factory bluetooth kit coming to me, so it should be an easy enough plug and play install. Thanks for your help.
