So, ive been doing a small project of turning a eePc into a carpc. The only thing im unsure about now is what external sound card i should get for it. What i would need is a 5.1 sound card so i can run all the speakers and sub from the pc.

In doing this, most of the ones ive seen are the 3.5mm head phone jack, so im guess i would need some RCA to 3.5mm adapters. Anyone else whos done a car pc, have you done the same thing?

Cheers,

Wiggles

I'll be honest...you are gonna have a hard time finding a quality USB soundcard...harder still with 5.1 output.

I would consider choosing a desktop as your platform, or a "serious" laptop. I know these aren't the solutions you are after, but if you want sound quality rather than noise I would just cough up the cash.

If you change your mind, here is a link to an acceptable USB 2-ch solution with RCA outs http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=2272

Alternatively look for an Amplifier with Pass Through so you can daisy chain your amps??

I wouldnt be 100% sure about that as when i was studying audio visual and design at uni, the lecturer whom ran his own business as an audio technician told us they use external sound cards for better audio.

Judging by your amps they may not have a Pass through function (It means that one set of RCA's Pass into the Amplifier for signal with another set comming out to go to another amp)
