Hey all :)

Thanks for coming to look, I've just purchased a whole Sony Xplod kit, speakers, head unit, sub, amp. I know how to wire and connect it up, but my biggest question is with the Console. How do I remove my factory head unit out? I have figured out I can put the car in Drive and hold the cup holder, then left and slide out that part. But the rest, I'm still a little unsure, some things seem they can come out but I don't want to forcefully take anything out and bust it :P

Is there a manual posted somewhere? or has someone posted a guide or has the know how?

Greatly Appreciate it! :)

Ok, fixed it, figured it out :P

But still one problem, I wired in a new Sony head unit, however three wires are still not being used and two things are no longer working on my dash :(

There were two molex plugs on the original head unit. One was a small one that has one single blue wire going into it. I can only assume this is a 12v accessory power lead as when after unplugging the other larger molex plug, the time and security light was still on until I unplugged this. I have cut the wires on the other molex plug and wired in my speakers, 12v batt and 12v ignition wires. But there still remains two wires, a pink and a black with green line. My illumination toggle for my dash light brightness does not work at the moment, and the little LCD display between the two large dials does not function correctly. The LCD is just blinking with the number 5.

Any idea's where these two/three wires need to be hooked up to?

I'm guessing when you installed the new h/u you connected the illumination wire?
This is why your dash brightness no longer works and this wire should not have been connected
I would cut this wire (normally an orange wire) and tape it off, will get your dash brightness toggle back

On the LCD screen that 5 is actually a S for sedan
Hold the mode button down and it should beep and show 3.5, hold the mode button again
This is for the trip computer and should work again now, this normally happens when you disconnect the battery

ok, the holding the mode button works fine for the LCD display. That works. Now, in the old white plastic molex plug where the old head unit was connected to still has a pink wire and a black with green line wires still in it.

I also noticed another problem, everything on my dash works now, EXCEPT for my indicators.. for some reason the right and left indicators switch does not work. However the Hazard lights, headlights, break lights etc all work fine even with the stereo going.

Did you use this guide for wiring?
http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Mitsubishi-Wiring.pdf
I would recheck over the wiring to see if your connected a wire wrong, dunno how the indicators can stop working if the hazards are

Noticed you said switch, well be rights you shouldnt have touched the indicator stalk
Might have bumped it and knocked out the plug

That's the strange thing.. I never went near the stalks. On the same stalk as the indicators are my headlights, low/hibeams etc, they all work fine, Hazards lights work, but the indicators don't.. I checked all 4 fuses for the indicators, the fuses under the hood near the battery for the indicators are fine. The indicator fuses down to the right under the steering column are also fine. So no blown fuse.. :(

On a positive note, head unit is in, antenna working fine. PS: that wiring guide, although similar, it was very inaccurate. That is what I followed at the start and all the speakers were reversed, and the antenna was plugged into a black/green cable as directed from the wiring guide. I cut that cable, taped it up, and then cut the pink cable and wired that to the blue, now my tuner antenna goes up and down when on tuner.

But still, My indicators don't work. Does anyone know where the main plug for these are located so I can check to make sure they are in securely?

Ok, indicators work.. for some reason, until the hazard lights plug is back in, the indicators don't work.. How does one remove the door panel to exchange the door speakers?

Oh, didnt realise you hadnt plug the hazard light harness back in
Then yeah your indicators wouldnt work if this harness wasnt connected

As for the trims, theres a couple of threads telling you how to do it
It's pretty simple unless you have manual windows?
Then it's alittle more tricky ;)

Awesome.

Well, I have my amps/subs/speakers/head unit in and all is working, illumination dimmer, tuner antenna, lights, indicators etc blah blah :D

I'm a happy chappy! Oh wait, I just need to figure out how to remove the door panels to install the last remaining bit, the front door speakers. Then I'm done! :P

I ended up remove the two front seats and rear seat, and ran my amp remote and amp power lead down the drivers side column, likewise I sent the audio cables down the left hand side. No hum at all, so I'm happy :D

Front Doors are the Easy part.. a suggestion would be to make an MDF template of the Plastic Speaker retainer and mount your speakers onto that .. Just make sure the speakers you have chosen clear the window mechanics on the inside of the door..

If making an MDF template, Painting the MDF is recommended to stop it from rotting from Moisture...

All done. Forgot to come back and post as I've been busy fixing up the car :P

I've sound deaded the boot lid and various other parts to fix vibration. Spent around $60 on 6 rolls of Dynamat 2.3m material with some self adhesive strong spray can.

I've cut a custom board to fit real nice on the back left quarter panel in the boot and covered it with black boot carpet, mounted my monoblock amp to it and then braced it in place via two screws with nuts from the rear tail light and drilled a hole through the upper boot panel brace for another clip. Cables tucked away nicely and then going under the boot carpet. And my sub is nicely securely and is in place in the rear of the trunk. So it's quite nice now. I've cut a piece of Dynamat and placed it behind my number plate as well as a bit of foam for extra protection. I have also noticed I still had a crap load of large metal vibrations coming from under the 6x9 speakers. After ripping out the back seat, making sure the cables and screws were secure, it was still vibrating. Then I realized it was the boot lid metal rods that span from the left to the right. In the middle of the rods is a small hook that comes and helps secure the longer rods that span across. I soon fixed that by sliding a bit of Dynamat around the rods in the middle where the hooks go down. There is still a tiny bit of vibration overall when I have the sound cranked. But you cannot hear it from the insidie, and from the outside, you can only notice it when you put your face upto the car panels, other than that. Standing a meter away, you can't hear any vibrations :) YAY!!

Next on the list, Get a Ralliart spoiler or a VR-X spoiler attached at Talons, sprayed and fitted. And then get two black vynil stripes 150mm wide from front to back. Will look nice over the silver magna. After that, it's time to head to Moonah Mufflers and get a 2.5" muffler system thrown on. And finally get my king springs with KYB shocks installed :)

Staying with the stock bodykit on the vehicle atm. May have to remove the mud flaps once I get the springs/shocks installed after it is lowered.
