Hey guys
As I now have my P's I have been using the car far more now then previously.
When we bought the car there were some audio mods already done, there is an Amplifier in there already as well as an aftermarket Pioneer Head Unit. I'm not sure if there are some replacement speakers in there but theres a surprising amount (read: heaps considering theres no sub) of bass in the car considering how much the stock sound system seems to be bagged out on these Magnas :D
The thing is however, that I am currently using an FM Transmitter for my phone to get sound through the head unit but this is a fairly clunky and not especially reliable solution. I'm thinking about getting a Head Unit with BlueTooth in it as it should be better audio quality, less fiddly and far more reliable.
It's not likely to be another Pioneer head unit however and I'm not sure how the amplifier will complicate things. Is it fairly easy to replace the Head Unit on these Magna's by yourself? I'd prefer not to have someone else install it as it's cheaper for me to do it and it would be nice to do something myself on the car.
Hey dude, its not too hard a job, you just need to get the harness diagram to match the colours and know how to strip, solder, and shrink wires. Where are you located?

LOL Soldering, that could be interesting. Not sure I'd be able to get the stuff required for that
I'm in Campbelltown BTW. A few places for Car Audio around here but I haven't really been looking much as of yet. Would be interested to hear Installation prices.

Or you could buy a wiring loom adaptor which makes the job alot cleaner and easier (not only to install but to return to stock).
After plugging in the loom adaptors to the wiring harness, you'd only need to find a good earth and that'd be it.

You're in luck then, I'm over in Bradbury and willing to lend a hand, send me a pm if/when you need help with it man, I've done a few now (on my third HU and I've done my housemates 300zx and KH XI Verada!!).
You may have spotted me around sometimes, white magna, painted windows (really dark tint :P), low as shit, twin exhaust, and AMC sticker on the sides and back!

Not going to work if it already has an aftermarket, most likely chopped up already!

Depends on how it was wired in
Some places will tap in just behind the stock harness leaving the stock plug attached
So its just a snip, tape and your back to square one

Thats strange Life, I may have seen you around not sure, I do see the occasional modded Magna. Will have to keep a lookout. I'm in ST Helens Park to be exact so thats practically around the corner
If you see a ridiculously low Black Magna Sports with 19" chromes it may be me or other family members :D
To add to the rest of the conversation, the work done on the car before I got it appears to have been done on the cheap, so yeah the wires are probably in hysterics lol
I've just replaced my head unit, some pics of the process are in my members ride thread in my signature.
Your choice of head unit is critical to make sure it's got the RCA outs that you want/need (assuming the amp is given a signal at Line level and not speaker level) and to make sure that the bluetooth actually supports A2DP (or whatever it's called).
My system has bluetooth, but it's strictly for phone calls :(
Getting the head unit out is a challenge the first time, so definitely read up on this - there's a couple of threads that will help, just search for them :)

Life is closer then I am, but I live 45mins South of Campbelltown, down near Bowral and would be willing to assist you in the upgrade of your Head unit...
I go to TAFE at Campbelltown and there are some tasty Magna's down there but I doubt they are members...
(I don't have a printer so I cannot tag them and direct them here or I would)
If your willing to take a Highway cruise I can help you out if needed.
