I got a quote today from my local guy to fit twin straight through exhausts but he couldnt give me a price for the matching stock tip.
Anyone know the price or is there an alternative non stock tip.
I must admit though I really like the twin tips that some have such as stimulate's tips.

cant buy the stock tip unless you get the whole muffler.
yet to find a close after market approximation. doesnt mean there isnt one though.
could try asking the other SA boys if they kept their exhaust systems when they changed?
(there have been a few threads on this btw)

i reckon it would look so hot to have twin tips that are angle cut, but also have the outside pipe of the twins a little shorter than the inside. Like this

But dual, one on each side.Looks awesome on my mate's VE SSV

By the time you tracked down a stock VRX or GT tip (and as Stormie says you'd have trouble finding one that wasn't attached to the stock muffler) you might as well get two new tips anyway. The Crummydore style angle cut twin tips would look good as Straty says, but I've priced them and they cost a bomb.
Here's a nice looking Lukey one at Best Mufflers, comes in left & right, but costs $185 each side before postage:
http://www.bestmufflers.com/bshop/product_info.php?cPath=374_380&products_id=2670&osCsid=ad2353e81b79635ae9f2fc14b6bf5d6a
Blackstar - my VE mufflers came without tips, I got my tips from the 'specials' bin at SCA for a whopping $25 each (down from $80 each). Stainless steel, single 4" outlet twin wall design.

Chris,
Sorry for the bum steer, I now remember it was Repco not SCA. They have stores right next to each other on Commercial Rd Port Adelaide, so I sometimes mix them up. But it was nine months ago, so unlikely they still have any of the same tips on special.

What was the quote? (if I may ask). I'd still like to do that one day. Is it start from behind the cat? Is the guy aware that a larger (ie Berklee) muffler will not fit on the other side? He's gonna do the cutting of the rear bar too?
As for tip, why not check a wreckers? Always plenty of wrecked 380s people are linking here; a tip shouldn't be that hard to get. Or forsake your's and add 2 new ones that look similar. Or go for 2 dualies like the VE V8s (wouldn't fit standard cut out though).
chrisv

Well the quote was $500 with a new freeflow muffler to match my existing plus all pipework and cutting out bottom spoiler excluding tips.
I enquired at Mitsi dealers and you cant buy the GT tip separately. I tried local wreckers no luck.
Some of the s/steel twin tips are crazy prices at $150 - $250 EACH!
I have found a couple of s/steel twins with rolled ends on ebay for $50 each so have ordered them tonight.
I hope to get it done after easter so will post the pics. :roflwtf:

Is the guy aware that a larger (ie Berklee) muffler will not fit on the other side?
Can someone please explain why the Berklee BS0655 muffler will not fit on the passenger side of the 380?
As you would all know, the TMR Dual Exhaust kit for 380's uses the stock muffler on the passenger side.
Looking at the muffler sizes:
- Berklee BS0655 = 510mm x 250mm x 150mm
- Stock 380 = 500mm x 280mm x 160mm
Does the extra 10mm in length stop it from fitting?

KJ380 can explain it better, or some of the others that have done this - but from memory they said the fuel line or something obstructs part of the cavity/space where the muffler would sit. Yes I think the extra length hits something, preventing the fit.
Yes the TMRs ran with dual exhausts, and plenty other makes will fit the other side - but just not a Berklee. I think Foozrcool uses (and recommends) Supercats which are small enough to fit on the passenger side. Therefore, someone like me, who has a Berklee muffler, would have to scrap it and get 2 smaller Supercats instead. If you haven't done anything yet, decide first whether you want 1 muffler or 2... if you just want the 1 I can recommend (as do others) the Berklee.

I tried three different exhaust shops, they took measurements, and they all said the Berklee BS0655 won't fit on the passenger side. Well at least not tucked up at the same level as the driver's side.
The problem is the fuel filler pipe and it's metal cover, it sticks down a fair way into the space where the muffler would go.
You could hang a Berklee BS0655 under the fuel filler cover, but it would be very low and look stoopid. Let alone ground clearance with a lowered car like mine.
But as suggested by Fooz some time ago, maybe the cover could be removed, cut or modified in some way so the Berklee will fit at the right height.
I chose not to experiment with this as I didn't like the idea of a hot muffler very close to an unprotected fuel line.
I don't know how Mitsu managed to fit a stock muffler on the TMR 380 on the passenger side, I'm guessing they relocated or modified the fuel filler pipe and/or cover in some way. I'd love to crawl under a TMR and have a look.
I'd be happy to fit twin BS0655 if someone else takes the plunge and sees if it can be done!

Those of you that have twin exhausts would you say they were quieter than single muffler?
Probably. But I didn't go from single of one type of muffler to dual of the same type.
I went from stock muffler to smallish Lukey Ultraflow (way too loud & droney) to single Berklee BS0655 (very quiet most times, nice growl under WOT, no drone at all) to extractors & dual system with twin smallish Berklee Pex (medium loud, not quite as loud as the single Lukey, but still way too droney) to dual Crummydore SV6 mufflers (very nice burble at idle, slightly loud under WOT, now starting to develop a slight drone when under pressure - like going up a hill - between 2,000 & 3,000 rpm).
But comparing the twin Berklee Pex with the single Lukey Ultraflow, which IIRC were the same size (14" x 8" x 5") and very similar internally, the twins were slightly quieter. And that was with extractors v stock exhaust manifolds. But both setups droned way too much.
So i'd say that twins will probably be slightly quieter than a single of the same type. I think it might also depend on the pipe diameter. Unless you are looking to really do some work on the motor (S/C, turbo, beefed up internals etc), there is no point going to 3" diameter pipe. It would probably result in reduced performance and increased noise & drone, so just stick with 2 and 1/2" pipe.
As many of us have found the hard (& expensive!) way, if you want a straight through muffler on a 380 that doesn't drone, whether single or dual system, bigger is definitely better, and you should go for the biggest one(s) you can find that will fit. I'm still waiting for someone to 'prove' that a Berklee BS0655 will fit on the passenger side, and if someone ever manages to do this that's the way I will go.

Can you get some pics from ground level showing up under the rear? I wanna see how the mufflers sit.
I recall being told (by someone, can't remember who) that duals will sound a tad louder as you need them to be smaller (ie passenger side smaller, so other side smaller to match). Very interesting if you had no fitment problems of the second muffler.

Can you also photo a close-up of the twin tips showing the bumper cut-out? It looks like the original-right side has been extended, with the left side to match - as duals couldn't possibly fit the original cut-out shape. But nicely done, looks tough! Just need some big rims to finish it off.

Called TMR today to get a quote from them on the exhaust used on the TMR 380, they said $1800. That's for a dual 2 1/4 exhaust from the cat back, with oval tips, and exhaust heat shields for the rear bar. I got quoted from a place in Orange $600 for a dual 2" from the first muffler back, with 2 free-flow Redback mufflers and twin tips. TMR is a fair bit more expensive, but i suppose they are allowed to be cause they a a big company.

First the bloody locusts!!! I had to stop at the inlaws in Swan Reach and spent an hour hosing out the fron grilles and radiator even though I had put netting over the grills. The swarms were huge, like driving into an air raid with flack coming the whole time
The exhausts sounded awesome very little drone except that annoying rev range when it changes to 5th too early but I just flip it into 4th and it just burbles nicely.

Check out the youtube link. I did a close up of the cut out for the second exhaust.
Sounds not that brilliant as it was on a little flipcam
spoiler looks great with the lip

I replaced those 3" twin tips with 2.5". Looks much better not so 'boy racer".
Also replaced the new Redback muffler for a 'Powerflow' as I found the redback too noisy at certain revs for what I wanted.

Got 2.5"s on mine. They're the go mate, dont have to alter the original cut out too:happy:

Chris,
Too noisy or too droney or both?
I suspected the Redback mufflers would be a bit too droney for your liking.

Both, too noisy and droney with the Redback. Now with 2 Powerfolows the exhaust note is just what I want. Nice Burble on tickover and absolutely no drone. All up cost was about$580 including the twin tips (ebay) and cutting out rear bar.
My exhaust guy swapped over the Redback at no charge. Exhaust Wizard in Willaston,Gawler.
I'll post pics of the smaller tips later

These are the 2.5" tips. I think they look more "subtle" not quite like a set of naval guns.
Good sound too, no drone

LOL Yes I did the same. Personal preference here. I thought they were too big. Other people thought they looked and sounded great. I have changed mine to 2.5" out
