Hey guys, Im currently trying to change the interior colour of my TS, does anyone know if the door inserts are glued in or are they bolt ins? I dont want to accidently break something when taking off

Also I am planning on re-covering with a different material, but a freind sugested that I could Dye the cloth instead... has anyone tried this? any sugestions?

Not sure about the 2nd gen ones, but the 3rd gen door cards are screwed in from the back. You should take it apart and have a look.

Its pretty easy to put new fabric on the 3rd gen ones, there are just staples holding it on. New fablic would be better rather than cloth, there are some nice fabrics at spotlight... I got some fabrics from there for my old 1st gen door cards that I made up :)

Just take off the doors skins and you'll see that they pretty much just pop out. They stay in place with a sort of circular metal clip. Cloth is the a better way to do it then trying to dye it, especially if you're going for faux leather look.

Just take off the doors skins and you'll see that they pretty much just pop out. They stay in place with a sort of circular metal clip.
NB: the plastic pins that the metal clips fit to are extremely fragile. Take the door skin off the door, then carefully prise the metal clips off the pins, there are four metal claw things on the clip that dig into the plastic, need to pry these up with a small screwdriver or something, otherwise the plastic will just snap. To reinstall, I found that using a small socket worked well, put it over the clip and pin, and hit with a hammer to slide the clip onto the pin.

If clips do break, you could always try using a hot-melt glue gun to stick the panel back on.

Forget the dye. Strip off the old material, under it you will find a degraded foam backing which is a bitch to get off, just sand it back as best as you can. Use contact adhesive to glue on your new material, paying careful attention to the corners, snip little V's into the corners so you can fold the material around.

Of course the best bet is to grab some spares from a wreckers for $5 and work on those, so if you muff it you haven't destroyed your only set of trims.

Howdy All
Zen i have a walkthrough with all the basics on how to do it step by step if you would like it. As having no idea about how to do this when I did my interior it was a major help
Cheers

So what sort of material and colour suits the second gen? (No, not red vinyl!)

I feel the urge . . . . . to reupholter my car in the current Lancer colour. Looks classy!

Used black microsuede, on top of 3mm foam. Looks very classy. That or color-coded vynal on top of 3mm foam, the puffyness underneath gives it a very homely feel

Black microsuede on 3 mm foam, sounds good. I think the lancer is charcoal, not quite black, but I could be wrong.
