Hey guys i have a 1993 Te Magna and currently it has some stock alloys on it, but i would love nothing more than to get a set of 20inch mags put on it. The car isnt lowered as of yet but i would like to lower it sooner or later.

My questions are

Do i need to get the guards rolled to fit 20's under them?
Are there any real issue with running 20's ?

The reason i am asking is because i didnt have much of an issue running 18's on my falcon but if i lowered it, i would have to look into rolling the guards. I just dont want to make a wrong move !

I've got 20's with 245/30/R20 and they scrape when the car leans a bit too far on anyone side so in this case yea I should probley get them rolled but when I got the rims they had 225 tyres on and never had a problem. Few other guys with 20's run 225's or 235's and can drive without rolling the guards.

Lowering also isn't an issue but yea in that case should get them rolled anyhow.

Did they make TE's in 93? do you mean '96?

Rolling guards will depend on the width and offset of your rims moreso than the diameter of your rims. If, say, you only had 7" wide rims, they should fit fine - since that's what some Magnas came with standard.

I have 8" wide rims with +38 offset (only 18" dia) with 235 width tyres and had my guards rolled. Not everyone has though, so ymmv. Personally I'd recommend getting it done, but you could always try and see first.

NO..its from AU onwards only...wrong offset on the earlier wheels

Hey guys,

I am sort of at a cross roads in regards to my rims, I have the following and there is a bit of an issue I do not know how to proceed with..

18x8 rims with 245/45R18 Tyres. Manufacturer website states 36 as the offset for them.

The issue is that the back tyres look the part but they are rubbing on the top IRS arm of the suspension, the problem is worse at the front because the whole lot is poking outside of the wheel arches, making the whole thing pretty much illegal.. Is this a issue in regards to the offset? because after looking at the struts, the wheel couldnt really afford to go back much further as it will hit it!

I am stressed about the whole thing as I have only just bought the wheels/rims today and I can not see them fitting...

The car is a KJ Verada.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I just got the tyres swapped with 245/40R18.. No more scrubbing. Still got the front offset issue but not much i can do...

How do everyone elses 18x8's look, looking down from the front guard?

you need to get 235/45-18's on there. The 245's are just to wide in this instance.

Having looked that size up on a calc, I should have gone down that path... Damn! Almost hits the original circumference perfectally also...

The primary problem I am facing is the offset of the rims themselves (Which should have been fine at +36), need +38 to +40 to bring them back into the guard a bit more (there is juussstt enough space for that to have happened) but alas, they arent. "one size fits all" doesnt exist as much as the manufacturers wish it did.

Thanks for the input, very helpful :)

Actually, just measured the approximate overlap outside of the guard as best as I could and it is only about 5mm. Which is the additional width on the rubber.... The rim is basically in line perfectally with the guard! so 235/45's would be ideal. Ah sod it!

My 19's are 8.5 wide and have a similar offset, this is gonna cost a bit of money, but my plan is to flare the guards out more... Maybe you could also try this? (depends on how much you are looking to modify your car that is... )

I don't really want to go down the flared guard path, have had a few discussions with people since getting these rims in regards to it, and I dont really think it would look appealing on my car. Added to that is I havent really done many mods to my car, this is due to me over modifying all the previous cars I have owned. Got this one as a very nice, clean car and have kept it that way...

I do have a nagging feeling in the back of my mind to fit the camshafts/heads Ralliart magna and ECU/remap , cold air intake, etc... I just deleted about 5 lines of wants I wrote, 2 Years I havent touched a thing. Soon as I need new tyres I get 18" rims, and now I want to modify the hell out of it. haha
