Out of curiosity (and a desire to save a fair bit of money), would an imported Head Unit from USA work on a car in Australia (TJ Magna to be specific)?

I'd love a new BlueTooth Head Unit but they are quite expensive compared to a standard head unit.

This is the Head Unit, the exact same model is sold in the UK as well. It would be roughly $200 delivered if I were to import it.

Yes it would. VRX_Chiq imported hers from the US and it works just fine.

A DVD one might have compatability issues (region 1 vs Region 4)

Radio Stepping may also be an issue, I have a feelling they step in .5mhz and we step up by 1mhz... Not sure.
used to be an issue in the past when importing a head unit..

I have a pioneer that steps .05mhz.. works fine just have to step twice as many times.

AM stepping is 10kHz in the USA, whilst we use 9kHz here... but who listens to AM anyway?

if you get a DVD headunit, it just means that you need to make a backup copy of your region 4 DVD and remove the region coding. any DVD player will play a DVD without a region code.

Hey I ordered a pioneer fh 8000bt from the states a couple of weeks ago. got it for 400 delivered. I feel safe that it will be compatible because there is an Australian website selling the exact same unit now. Its not a dvd head unit though.

PS. does anyone know where to get a wiring harness adaptor? I have the factory single DIN unit in my TL.
