Hey guys,

I was searching this site for information on how to check if the timing belt needed replacing, there was this one thread that sort of stated it but no one really expanded on it. I was wondering if there was a way of removing just a couple of screws or so to see how worn out my timing belt is.

thanks in advance.

One of the bolts that you need to remove is actually quite hard to get to. Not undo-able but not a 10 minute job either.

to inspect the belt, just undo the top bolts and pry the cover back without snapping it. You cant inspect from just looking at it, its not the rubber you can see that majes the belt snap. its the kevlar under the rubber that will make the belt snap, and you cant see that from just looking at it.

If the belt has 100k on it or is more than 5 years old, probably should change it.

Now to assist the OP......

On the front cover, you will find 2 10mm head bolts and down near the alt 1 12mm head bolt. You can undo these with a spanner or socket

Now you can remove the cover

The belt, it will not be obvious and to be honest a belt with 30+ k wll not look much different to a belt with 100+k

If in doubt, get it changed

if you decide to remove the whole lot, there is 3 parts to remove, and a seal, also if you remove it, take not of where the cas wire runs.

cool thanks will try tommrow. How much would it cost to get it changed in QLD? i was quoted like 800 - 900 but it seemed a bit high for a belt.

thats abit much, 600-700 is decent, its not too hard to do yourself, your supposed to have a tool to set the tension on the belt though cost 40 off ebay, but lots of people on here have done it without (including myself).

If you shop around, you should be able to get it for about 500, make sure you get the water pump and cranks and cam seals done at the same time. this might make it about the 750 mark
