Hey guys im due a trans fluid change and normally use the Mitsi sp3 from the Dealer. Ive noticed Castrol TQ95, and the Nulon Multi ATF that are SP3 compatable. The Mitsi fluid is $80 for 5l, but the nulon and Castrol fluid are only $40 for 4l, and nulon does a synthetic version for about $80. Is the Mitsi stuff synthetic or mineral based? didnt say on the container, but if it is mineral based i may as well save money and get 8L for $80 instead of 5L. Has anybody used the nulon or castrol?? would prefer to stay with synthetic if the mitsi stuff is. cheers

is the aussie mitsi fluid synthetic? ours come in a white container. I always use genuine for the trans but i trust castrol and nulon, so Im thinking i could save money provided they are all mineral based. the price of the genuine fluid would suggest its synthetic.

When it comes to the tranny, use only Genuine oil.

Aparently Mitsub add their own additives to it. Mitsub auto's are very picky with what oil they like.

Can comment from experience that the Mitsub oil makes your tranny operate better/smoother.

Stick to the Mitsu fluid.

Sorry guys, but there are many oils out there and several suitable for the Mits Trans. Mits do not make their own oil, they order it from a bigger companyt who make it.

I have been using Lubrimax trans fluid for about 4 years now and have only had positive results to date. Only reason I really use it is convenience as I go through 40+l per month and mits bulk price is crap.

Yeah there's still alot of stories about using non-mitsu fluid.. the problem as I understand it is that many people put the complete wrong stuff in, i.e. dextron 2 especially, etc.

If you get the correct right fluid it's OK, but I don't happen to know who sells the correct right stuff.. but for example I know penrite make a fluid "Conforming to mitsubishi XXX spec", etc.

I guess in all reality you won't go WRONG by using mitsu fluid.

Whoever is charging you $80 for Mitsu SP3 is ripping you off. OTTOMH, Bill Lilley in Queanbeyan charges me about $35 per 5l, definitely less than $40.

Just make sure you find something that says to mitsu spec, and don't get like dextron :P

I got myself a 20L drum of the Penrite stuff for my TH Sports Tippy (had to order it in but I work for Autobarn ;-) )
To flush properly you need 8.5 l (according to the manual)

To be honest I can't remember, I'll check @ work tomorrow and give the retail price.
I may be able to do a "club" deal if a few are interested (bend the boss's arm a little).
I'm in N/E suburbs Melbourne.

I asked the Mitsi dealer here and he said the fluid is made by BP, and is synthetic. they also sell 1l containers which are BP product as its in a BP green bottle. that is the price difference as the mineral nulon product (Multi ATF- has SP3 compatable on bottle) is about $40 for 5l and the synthetic version is about $90 for 4l. i dont think castrol make a synthetic version of the TQ95.

Wolfmanoz, which store do you work at

To do a complete flush I will generally use up to 15l

another question, to avoid starting another thread. the spin on filter on my KE 4spd is $35 from mitsi, but it looks to me to be a generic oil filter so i was wondering if i can match and use a standard oilfilter, but a decent one ie the fram extraguard i use for the engine (it would match too lol) these are only $13 so a big saving.

Ok the fluid Penrite do is ATF-MHP http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/automatic-transmission-oils/atf_mhp
It's $180 for 20L drum or $40 for 4L
The tranny filter is a spin-on and we usually carry the Wesfil TO1 filter for round $10

I work at the Eltham store (mostly w/ends)

i personally would spend the extra and get the right fluid from mits. Its something you only need to do once every few years anyway. People spend so much on stereos and shiny wheels and paint care, but whats the good of any of that if you have a poorly maintained car mechanically that has a stuffed gearbox.
One of the guys here in qld has his auto flushed a while ago by a mechanic who said they would use a generic brand of the same type, within days the gearbox was playing up. Turns out he (the mechanic!) put the wrong fluid in. and the member was up a few grand for a new box.

Whilst I agree that there is a Mitsubishi Fluid (made by whoever wins the contract to meet specs) if you read the spec sheet, the Penrite stuff exceeds Mits specs. I've been using it for well over a year and it's working great.
At the end of the day I respect your right to choose which you buy.

I think he means there are some places that would put say dextron in without thinking. the nulon, castrol etc versions that meet Mitsi SP3 should be fine, they are mineral so if your worried the nulon synATF meets the SP3 spec also.
