View Full Version : TM vs TP Carby head
Putting on the new head & its marked as "TP Carby"... "looks" identical, however i've just noticed that the spark plugs are a different size!
Is it OK to use?
I'm going to swap the vavles over too, as the reco'd head valves are a bit average...
Anything else i need to look out for?

Id PM magnabuff, he knows those buggas real well :D
hmmm just looked at the cam bearings... looks like the head has come off a solidly blown engine...
there's huge gouges out of the cam bearings & the cam :|
not happy!
Here's the pics of the cam damagage... knackered?

that is not good
loss of lubrication and other problems if you used it
can you get a refund or choice of another head
plugs would be different because the TM is a leaded fuel and TP unleaded
Buff - both the cam & the head is not good?
I can use my other cam - off the 70k engine which is in perfect shape, so then it'd just be the wear on the head bearings to be concerned about, still toss it?

If the cam has no groves
you would need to use the top of the bearing caps
that go with the good camshaft
use some wet and dry paper gently on the
damaged heads bearing part to reduce the grooves
the actual minimum clearence on each bearing cap of the cam is .05mm-.09 mm
at one time repco used to sell the clearence testing strips
if in doubt
you should take the head to a reconditioner and have the cam and bearing caps
checked for the correct clearence along the whole cam shaft

Those groves are perfectly spaced, like they have been machined.
There was a guy on ebay selling 4g54 cam bearing for ages. Need to get the head line bored oversize , and then fit the bearings.
I dont think he ever sold any.
