Hey guys,

New member here - just thought Id tell you all about my plans for my 1991 TP Manual 2.6 EFI (134000 clicks). My interest in cars is only new and ive been doing alot of reading - so Id appreciate any comments... Ive only just had the idea to start modding my car after I picked up some cheap rims for the car (picture attached). Mods in order:

*Tail light cluster and side indicator tints. The colour of my car is metallic grey (mitsu call it "AW Cosmic Grey") so the tints would look good. The only product ive seen to do this is "Night Shades" that you can get at supercheap - is this what you used _stonesour_?

*Re-apolster the roof/headliner in grey suede. Not sure how hard it is to get the headliner out tho - anyone done it?

*Some kind of improved/high flow exhaust - ive heard lukey and redback mentioned alot here, still have to do some research on this. Also seems like 2.25" to 2.5" is the optimum size.

*CAI on the right side of the bonnet to seal up with a modified airbox containing a POD or a K&N - again more research needed. Also not sure what the deal is with the airflow meter in the airbox and how it will behave in a different volume container.

*New struts all round - mine are original and are due for replacement so I cant see any harm in bringing the car a few inches closer to the ground while doing it :D

*Fix the DAMN RATTLES from the sub! My sub is facing towards the cabin because I made a stealthed box - you cant see that it if you look in the boot. So my parcel shelf rattles to the ****house as well as a whole lot of other little bits... very annoying and makes the sub sound horrible from outside the car.

And thats all I can think of for the moment. Anyway this forum is awesome and I have already sorted a whole lot of problems out thanks to reading the first generation posts.

Cheers,

Charles

firstly, welcome :D . i'd love to c more pics of ur car, the rims look good. and only having 134,000km on it? very nice. my 85 TM SE (carb  ) has got 210,000 at the moment. u can check out my website for some of the things i have done so far to my car.

now, the exhaust i'd probably recommened lukey, press bent. mandrel bent will not give u too much more gain, unless u are going to turbo. are u going to turbo ur car at all? if not, 2" or 2 1/4" cat back is the go. try a lukey hi-flow muffler on the end of it too.

i got a quote through supercheap for king springs, for getting king lows. $140 for 2. this is a decent drop... (i think its around 30mm? dont quote me on that)

sub rattles lol . join the club. i have an amp only giving my sub half the power it needs and it seems like the whole car is gunna rattle apart. its mainly the rear of the car, where the tail lights are. they rattle like #@$%!. im in the process of doing some mods myself and so havent bin able to get around to fixing any of the rattles. well, thats all from me... hope u find these forums as informative as i do. keep us posted bout the mods :D

yeah i used night shade

with your exhaust i got 2.5 inch ........ my advise is go with the 2.25 inch 2.5 is to big for a 4 cylinder ............only reason why i got mine 2.5 was cos i got it cheap so i couldnt complain

Thanks for the welcome and tips so far...

TM-SE-RED: Does catback exhaust mean everything from the catalytic converter back? Do you know of a good (read cheap and not nasty) exhaust place? I had a look at the king springs site and the part numbers for lows for the TP (KCFL21 & KCFL22) - sounds like a plan.

_stonesour_: Im in Queensland, inner westside. And yes, the middle panel does vibrate - ive got an idea to take the whole light cluster out and convert in to LEDs so im sure I could fix some rattles at the same time. Yes Id LOVE an elante body kit! Ive had a look round the wreckers and called mitsubishi to no avail. Other than that im out of ideas.

yep, 2" catback means 2" piping from the catalytic converter back (then the muffler on the end of course). for ur TP you'd b looking at around $260 i think a mate got his for. that includes 2" press bent piping with a lukey hi-flow muffler (get a resonator too). think this was done at bob parkes muffler service? this is in townsville, north queensland so i couldnt really recommend anywhere in brissy to ya.

elante bodykits arent the most common things around unfortunately  there are like 3 elantes up here at uni and im just waiting for one to die to grab the kit off it
damn things just keep going...

Hey welcome :D

the roof lieings a common magna thing  i went out and bought $30 stuff (looked great) but once i took the whole thing out, i thought i might just reglue the original fabric and if i dont like it ill take it back out and glue the other stuff on. Ive got pics and can help ya take the roof liening out.

Yer the struts, im getting my back ones replaced with a new set of monroe GT gas shockers and seeing everythings out i thought i might as well replace the back struts as there stuff and creak all the time.

HAHA the boot rattles lol i tryed fixin all the rattles but once i fixed on another would start it never ends

mad lanté: that would be awesome with some directions re removing the headliner. I had a good look round the drivers side corner and it didnt look too hard - but I broke a plastic clip while looking so I thought maybe its best to see if theres a "right way" before breaking some more.

Ill post some more pics after a good a session of painting, tinting and washing this weekend.

oh yea I dont have any plans to turbo my car as yet. Ill see how this round of mods go and then have a think.

Yeah i think all 1st gen owners think about turboing.. i got 2 1/4 from carline at albion, lukey ultra and resonator for 290 i think.. only took the slowass 4 hours to do. driftking at geebung quoted 250 with no resonator and a cannon muffler so i spent the extra and got something thats not as ricey. My lining is dead too, im just gonna get someone to reline it with new stuff for like $80, not that bad really... what suburb you in mac?

Carline sounds like a good deal, you got any pics of your job? I dont think id go to driftking just on principal.

Maybe after I do my headliner with suede ill take some pics and offer my services - im sure it can be done for a carton + supplies :)

Im in Chapel Hill (which is near indooroopilly if people havent heard of it).

after : http://www.x.xstreamhost.com/irr/Images/lukeyex.jpg

Really wish i recorded a before and after, still havent found a way of recording it, but you'll just have to believe me when i say i like the new exhaust sound more. makes people look, for example, driving down my street after going to the shops, some young chick (like 16 or something) walking home from school on her fone, i come down the street and put it back into 3rd doing what, 60? so its not revving its nuts off, about 3 thou or so, slowing down like i said to pull into our driveway and she does a full turn round and scope it out only to find a ****ty fat whiteboy behind the wheel of an oldassed magna.. she must've been disgusted that it wasnt a lancer with some asian behind the wheel.
