Hey guys,

just wondering if there is a really good ground point in the trunk. I currently have my amp in the trunk and have my ground cable connected to one of the speaker cover screws on the parcel shelf. i was going to connect it to one of the screws which attach to the arieal bracket but wasnt too sure if this would be ok.

Assuming you have a 3rd gen sedan..

ROFL - I can't quite make out where those pictures are except for the boot lid.

I don't think the ariel bracket is a great earth point, but I used it and it does work.
As for noise, there is a tiny bit noticable with high volume and no music signal - eg: the 2 second gap between songs on some CDs.

As for the cause, I've got wiring everywhere so I doubt that it's the sub that I'm hearing.

I just pulled off the back right carpet cover that sits over the right taillight, and took off a nut, then sanded the metal under it back and re tightened the nut.

How big is your Ground cable from your Amp?? If you are using a Speaker Cover screw as an Earth, I bet its not very big?? As a Minimum, you should have 8 Gauge.... and this goes for your Positive cable to your Amp!!!

yea my wiring is a 8 guage rampage wiring kit. the ground cable itself is like 3 ft long and the power is like 6 ft :) the speaker cover screw has like a nut on the other side so the o ring attached to my ground cable is sandwiched between the body of the car and the nut lol.

Try ground point #10, its behind the rear seat on the rear firewall on the passenger side.

If you lift up the boot carpet, at the RHS, the is a hole in the floor that is right next to the chassis rail* (*veiwed from underneath), it could/should have a rubber bung in there. If you pull out the bung, you can see the your driveway, sand the paint off for more contact. Use a nut and bolt to secure the earth.

If the number 9 was actually suspended from the boot seal during that pic, its just about below it.

I used the power antenna bracket. (I dont have a power antenna but the bracket is still there).
I am using a 400W RMS amp with 8 Gauge and it works a treat as you can hide the wiring up and under the carpet.
I don't like using Earths that are connected to other electrical equipment, If you use the earth near the brake lights and get a surge through your amp...I have seen it blow the tail lights before.
As long as your earth is to solid body metal or connected directly to the chassis and is not insulated it will work fine.. Paint is an insulator so yes, sanding it back will help..

FYI #9 is under the plastic panel that goes over the boot hinge to tuck in the carpet and hide the wiring harness.

When its possible its always best to use factory earth points as drilling holes and sanding back is likely to cause rust in the future unless it is resealed somehow (repainted or rustguarded).

Factory earth points are most likely to cause interferance. But repainting will help thanks. have done that, should have included it.

Keeping it close to the chassis will help big amps, Like that video on the big three, strong chassis connections are best.

Remember to disconnect your Negative battery terminal before moving your earth too.

It is best to get a ground as short as possible, so if you need to make a new spot to get it at minimal length that would be best.

Just pick a bolt mate. You are not running a huge amp. Make sure as said you make it secure and sand back any paint.

So long as the rest of your charging system is in order, you won't get any noise.

Simple and easy upgrade is to add an upgraded battery earth from the negative terminal to the chassis.
