Not too sure, but dude, you're probably gonna be better off posting threads like these in the 2nd gen section... You'll get more people that have experience with second gens looking at the thread than you will here.

banging? when is the banging occuring? under full lock turning? my steering rack was going and how my mechanic came to that conclusion was initially grabbing the steering wheel and seeing how much movement there was in the wheel before the wheels moved (if that makes sense) so how much free wobble it had.

if its under full lock and its like a 'bang bang bang' noise its your CV's (from what i've been told) but contact Mal and put it in the second gen section

Dude take it to a mechanic, We cant diagnose problems with a description of "it bangs in the front" over the internet, could be CV's, Strut tops, suspension, anything.

i have 'dude' taken it to mechanic
they said it was shocks, i replaced still there, said it was engine mounts, still there, replaced bushes etc etc still there, bump stops, still there,
and now they c the rack so i donno if its the problem

thanks everyone else, will post in 2nd gen section sorry

it makes a ver loud bang over speed humps if i go too fast, very loud bang over man whole covers just general bumps on main rds, high speel at 100 through hills like a corner with some up or down bumps it goes bang, really loud almostlike the shack springing up hitting the body, but its not that

Ahhhh that sentance hurt my head...

So... do you have lowered suspention or aftermarket wheels? My 2nd gen got very loud once I lowered it and changed to 17's...

I personally think you need a new mechanic if he's just picking things out of the air for you to replace. Engine mounts, lol, unless there was no rubber left, the motor could not possibly bang and make a noise.

Strut tops could be gone? What bushes were replaced? Did you replace with new shock absorbers or old ones?

Your mechanic sounds pretty useless TBH, anyone can guess what a problem is, takes someone talented to actually diagnose a problem correctly

DO THIS:

STEPS;

(1) Jack front of car up both sides and support on axle stands.
(2) Grab wheel at top and bottom and try to rock. Should be no play.
(3) Grab wheel at sides and try to rock.
(4) Do the same for the other wheel.
(5) Turn steering wheel left and right and listen for clunks.
(6) Remove both wheels, grab the tie rod end ball joint and try to move left/right, and in/out. Should be no play.
(7) Do the same on the other side.
(8) Check the drive shaft boots (2 on each side) and steering rack boots (1 each side) for tears, splits and leakage of grease.
(9) Run a spanner over every bolt and nut you can see and check for tightness.
(10) Put wheels back on, remove axle stands.

Report back here with your findings. If you don't feel competent to do these checks, get a competent mechanic to do them.

Just noticed you opened up another thread lol

Yes, it could be the steering rack, but if you spend $800 to get it replaced, and it still thumps, you will feel silly, yes?
Could also be worn wheel bearings, worn tie rod ends, worn ball joints, plus another 10 things.

Replacing parts on the basis "it could be" is wasting your time and money.

The correct procedure is to: EXAMINE ---> IDENTIFY PROBLEM ----> REMOVE DEFECTIVE ITEM --->INSTALL NEW or REPAIR ITEM

You and your mechanic are just standing back and guessing at what the problem is, without going through the above process.
Doesn't work that way.

You are in the second gen section, don't know what that other guy was talking about, my TS does the same thing, over bumps in the road at high speed especaily, if you find out what it is let me know as its got me stuffed what's causing it.

Mine makes loud bangs and scrapes, happens more frequently with:
-higher speeds
-bigger bumps
-big drains/holes in the road
-more people in the car

Im 99% sure its from the car hitting the ground. Look underneath the front near the corners, see if there are metal brackets with bits of gravel stuck in them, scrape marks, etc. Put some paint on them, and after you hear a bang, check to see if the paint has scraped off?

i get a thunk through the car over general bumps and it began when i went up a kerb at 50, got air, landed, dropped down and up another kerb, hasn't driven right since.

(This was avoiding a car accident)

Probably bottomed out and destroyed your bump stops. Could of totally knackered your shocks there but again till you get underneath and have a look, it's a guessing game.
