hey guys im getting my leather seats made by proseatauto and was charging me an extra $600 to fit the leather. so i was wondering if its hard to re-upholster it myself. he said the leather cover is a 1to1 of the original so its a matter taking off the old and putting the new and using the old steel rods or something. has anyone actualy done this was it easy/hard?

I have done the whole bit, taking the old material off and separating the material into individual panels, then duplicating them in the right material (not leather though), sowing them together and reinstalling them onto the seats. Surprisingly easy to do, and cheap!
Anyhow, yes, you can install them yourself. Undo the hog rings carefully, pliers and a screwdriver will do. You will find pockets with rods in them at various places, that some of the hog rings attach to. Move the rods to the new covers and put them on. First check that the foam is in good condition, and sitting right. Takes some effort to get the new covers sitting right, before you start putting the hog rings back on. Close them with a pair of pliers.
Have fun!

Do the back seat first, easiest to do and will give you a feel for the job.

ok cool looks like i have to buy some hog rings.he told me about those rods and where they slide into the pockets in the material but how do they actually attach to the seat or foam?? i understant they keep the conture of the seat by holsding the material tight against the seat??

Fake leather? lol All the disadvantages of real leather without the status. lol Keep the old seat skins just in case!

Recycle the hog rings currently on your seats. They connect the wire rods inserted into the pockets in the seat material to the wire of the car seat frame itself. Yes, they are responsible for the contour of the seat, and keeping the foam in place. Makes more sense when you do the job. Dismantling your seats will tell you all you need to know.

Just do it, you know you want to . . . .

Please do explain..... So what you are saying is that leather & vinyl have the same disadvantages? I can make up a whole list of advantages & disadvantages of leather vs vinyl & none of them will be the same.

umm not sure about disadvantages. i actually got back to him and he said they use Premium quality European automotive genuine and/or reborn leather is used aswell as non-combustible Aviation grade leather is offered. and as i said i saw some of his sample seats that have been out in the rain sun etc as he keeps them outdoors lol and they look good with no signs of wearing or fading.so ill be happy with the material hes using. payed $200 deposit today and pay the rest on completion :) does take 2 to 3 weeks tho which seems long for me.but oh well
