View Full Version : Verada GTV Satnav - completely useless on todays roads?

Gday all!

I was just wondering about the factory fitted satnavs in the GTV's - is it true that the maps have not been updated for years and pretty irrelevant to todays roads? One of the things I'm love about the GTV is the satnav and wondering if mitsubishi (or which ever company has built it) has actually bothered to keep the maps dated and correct, or has it been nothing more than a sales gimmick?

I understand the GTV & GTVi were stop being produced in 2005, so I'm not expecting the most up-to-date maps available, but I would hope there was some effort to release maps every 2 years or so....is mitsubishi responsible for updating the maps or can they be downloaded from somewhere else? Also if they're out of date - have they become a totally useless feature and people are just getting rid of them? Suppose its a decent opening for a gps to go in there anyway....but inbuilt stuff is always nicer than aftermarket add-ons and little handheld

Discuss :)

U can buy a new disc the satnav runs off a dvd like unit in the boot. just upgrade the disc to a current map

The CD ROM drive for the sat nav should be located under the front passenger seat. The sat nav is made by Blaupunkt. Check with Blaupunkt or Bosch if they have updated map data CD ROMs. The sat nav has nothing to do with Mitsubishi.

I heard a rumour you could get them but don't know where, don't know how much, don't know how current. Mine is not useless but sometimes not useful.

Wow, not sure where you got that info. But it couldnt be any more wrong.
Its a CD, the unit is mounted under the passengers seat, and its a massive pain in the ass to remove!!

The factory system IMO is junk. Even with the latest map(2008) @ $350 its crud(avail from bigger mitsu dealers). My dads $250 Garmin outdid this factory system. I removed mine it was that shit!
Dont even bother with it. Only benefit would be the screen, it uses a VGA input(non touch screen of course). So may be useful in a CarPC for eg.

The factory system was the bees knees when it was new. Its not junk, its now old and out of date. Like most 2 to 5 year old computer gear. A current stand alone sat nav is the way to go. Cheaper, more features and up to date.

the current version is 15. i have 13 when i used mine but dont use it anymore and are trying to sell my version as well. normally $400.
it is basic and easy to use. my remote mucked up and it was going to cost me $200 to replace so brought a portable one. now just use that and discontected my inbuilt one but dont no how to take out the built in one.

Inbuilt satnav in ANY car (read: top of the line BMW/Audi/Merc) are still not as good as a $200 Garmin unit IMO. I would never get factory satnav in a new car.

Its not that hard Trav, give it a go. No harder than adding a Head unit for eg.

Hi guys,

I found this link on whereis website and was wondering if you guys think this CD will work on our blaupunkt sat navs?

http://www.whereismaps.com/buy-map-updates_built-in-car-navigation_product.aspx?view=26&devicedesc=Aust+V18+DX+(CD)+Navigation+System&deviceid=69

Sounds very much possible to me and a price of $199 seems pretty good too.
