Hey guys i recently finished the first stage of my install in my 1996 Te Magna (my first stage is getting it in, second is getting it the way i like it)

I would like to see how others have mounted their fuse holders in the engine bay, photos would be great.

The Reason i ask is because i just bought a new 0gauge kit which i used in my old car for like 2 weeks and then i whacked it i the Magna and the wire on both sides of the fuse holder were just long enough for where i mounted it in the falcon, but now it sits just passed the air box. So instead of stripping new lengths (0gauge is pricey so would rather keep them in long lengths as much as possible) i toyed around with mounting the holder next the the air box. It was just being held on my cable ties (secured nicely though) until i cut a piece of sheet metal off to go under it and run the cable ties through the metal plate and around the air piping. I will fix the job up properly later dont get my wrong, i dont like to cut corners but i know the fuse holder wont move from where it is.

Thanks

Here you are, sir.

I was in the same boat as you - had pieces of cable that I didn't want to chop up. I even had to solder a couple together to make a long enough piece to reach the boot. That was a big challenge and it was only 8 gauge cable!
I secured the fuse with a simple bolt, washers and a spring washer to attach it to the fuse cover.
There's just enough slack in the cable to lift the cover off now.

The cable the runs around the suspension tower and into a grommet in a hole at the back of the tower.

Cheers, Graham.

Only place mine would properly fit, thats a 0awg fuse holder though, you don't need one that big unless your running 0awg, I just had that from my old system.

Hey Lugo see that piece of pipe above your fuse holder in the picture (i think its the air flow meter) thats where mine is sitting and i really dont want to drill into the housing for it. See my dilemma ? But good idea on mounting yours !

What pipe? I'm not sure what your looking at. Mine's not drilled in, 3M adhesive mate :P Sticks like nails, easy to take off though. Be a fool to drill into the air box haha.

ill try and get a pic of mine but it may not help you as i have a boot mounted drycell BUT i do have a 0g to 4x4g distribution block screwed into the chasis rail directly above (6inches above) the main pulley of the motor. This powers the starter and fuse block via 2 separate 4g cables hidden under the radiator

I was wondering about whether you drilled it or not!

Stay tuned ill get a Photoshop of where mine is (borrowing your photo)

The Silver is the sheet metal, green is the fuse holder, orange are the cable ties, red is the power cable. Hope you get the idea, i just need to think of a better way to mount it, because i like the Idea, just cant get the execution right.

When I had a Magna 3 or 4 years ago this is what I did.

Mine isn't even in the engine bay, which is bad, but mine's in the boot.

Unless your battery is in the boot. The fuse needs to be within 12" of the battery, if it isn't, it's pretty useless mate :)

TUFFTR some people like running 5 metre long toaster elements in their cars.. I have seen it before...

Its a Bit late to wait for the fuse to blow if the 5 metres before it has already caught on fire and burnt the car to the ground..

Please.. for your safety and the safety of others... Run the Fusible Link within the first 30cm of your power wire closest to the battery... That way.. if things get too hot... it will only melt up to the fuse not your entire car...

Some shorts are not INSTANT... they can heat the wire up until they get to the fuse.. then go pop...

Wow that's ghetto as. You know one day that sharp edge is going to slice your arm open? that's not very safe dude :)

Lucky for me I have a Blade Fuse.. So it literally hides in the Battery box with the battery.
peaandham:
I am hoping those sharp edges dont cut into any wires with vibration.

I own a File, Sealent, Foam Gasket, Angle Grinder, Hammer, Sanders, and some expanda foam, any of these will work to get rid of those sharp edges. As for cutting into cables with vibration i can guarantee 100% that it wont. Aerpro 0gauge has crazy thick jackets to the point a stanley knife has issue getting to the copper with pressure.

How do you get the fuse box cap/lid off with the big wire running across it? It needs to be inconspicuous...factory look, and not just an add on afterthought. I'd say run it under the fuse box, and down and then up towards the firewall, that way its not visible. The black tubing is a good idea though, instead of the in your face red. And get rid of the bracket. The earth wire should have been longer and also run under the fuse box towards the firewall (not the fender).

I was trying to find the post about why this is a defect have a text screw into your strut tower. It because it a main structural point of the car therefore you can't screw into it. Your only allow to bolt where a manufacturers have left a hole for a purpose.

maggie3.5: yes it is a tek screw and yes the is the strut tower, believe it or not it is not protruding on the other side.

GTVI: it still comes off without getting rid of the wire, i already checked that. Also i have already thought about running it under the fuse box i just need to pull some of the extra cable out from the boot. Also the ground wire is fine where it is, i checked the voltage drop when i had it on the firewall and then thought i would make it shorter to help accomdate my "Star Grounding" Big 3 Later down the track. No voltage issues still either.

Sparkinton: rules are made to be broken and like i said it isnt doing any damage as long as a copper doesn't see it (which i am working on)
