View Full Version : te magna idler pulley removal
Help to remove te 4 cylinder idler pulley. After removing a/c / power steering pump belt i took the lock nut off the idler pulley and tried to remove it but there is not enough clearance between the bracket and the body of the vehical to remove pulley. Whats the trick?

If this is the one I'm thinking.. on the passenger side on the crank shaft?
If so.. I had to actually drop the subframe partially and undo an engine amount up top to get this out on my TS.. basically had to lower the engine down below it so I could JUST get it out.
(On my TS with the same 4cyl engine, but I guess the body is a bit different.. dunno)

TE 4 cylinder is a completely different body and engine to the 4 cylinder TS.
Can you unbolt the tensioner adjuster or its mount completely? Not many people here know about the TE 4 cylinder, including me. lol
On the TS 4 cylinder, the tensioner won't come off because the bolt stops it, but if you unwind the adjuster bolt the centre bolt can be moved back and the tensioner lifted out - much easier. The TE 4 cylinder might be the same.
Thanks for your help. I loosened the 2 bolts from the mount that i could see to try and remove it that way but it was still attached pretty solid and i didn't want to tap it for fear of breaking something. I will have another look tonignt to see if there is any more bolts there. The adjusting bolt for the tensioner swung sideways when backed off and the nut for the pulley removed so it is out of the car.
