Hi again, have an issue with the TN where the battery light comes on every now and then. Had the alternator checked and was told it's working ok, well they stuck a multimeter on it and it was generating 13.4v or something like that. I have checked the terminal on the alternator and it's tight, and the connection is ok, all the leads running to it seem to be connected ok. The battery is brand new and i have cleaned all the leads to the battery and they are all sound.

This issue has been on going for a while now, we have replaced a battery but I'm thinking it was more that it was over 5 years old rather than not being charged properly. Have a new battery in thier now, 2 months old, seems to be charged ok, starts first time all the time.

Should i just bite the bullet and get another alternator? Or is there anywhere else i should be looking for a dicky connection?

Cheers, Daz.

Voltage reg/alternator bushes. Happened to my car, starts out with flashing then gets more permenant till the car starts running on the battery.

Using a multimeter at idle isn't really a good test. Probably brushes, as above. Only going to get worse. When you drive at night, look at the headlight brightness when the alternator light comes on. If they get dimmer or brighter, then it is definitely the alternator.

Swapping the regulator is easy enough, 30 second task and relatively cheap.

yep fit a new one

I have had regulators that look ok on the brushes
but faulty internals causing the lack of charge
