I know this has been brought up in the past but ive been searching and cant get a clear enough answer

My VRX was in an rear end acco before i bought the car and im guessing it didnt get the original vrx tailights as they dont look tinted at all.
From what ive found in searches is that these items are very expensive to buy so i was wondering how they would look with some of that tint film/spray (whatever it is, not sure really)
How exaclty are the vrx tails different to standard ones??
Cheers

They have a slight tint on them, just take some TL lights to a painter and get a very very light coat of tint and clear coat applied = VRX taillights.

open your tail lights up, paint the chrome reflector on the inside (apart from the circles for the indicator, reverse light, and brake light) black, seal back up and voila! TL/W vr-x lights, they're not actually tinted

The VR-X tails have a different reflector pattern and looking from the back plastic lens is clear (not the TJ carbon pattern). I'm not sure if mine are tinted, but it'll look nice.

Do you guys think painting the reflector black on kj tails would look good? And how do you open them up?

I'm getting a few bit of my TL sprayed over the next few weeks - spoiler going on, fixing ascrarch, painting engine cover and gear selector surround body colour- anyway my thoughts are headlight internals and tinting the taillight covers. You guys think the lights would look any good? I'm worried it could turn out looking a little too falconesque

mr_robertos tailights look great. Did u spray the inside or outside??

Jarah i agree they look nice... but they lack the 'toughness' the tj vrxs have i rekon

I masked up where each light was and the reflector then gave it two coats of night shade
Took masking tape off and gave it another coat
Was done on the outside yes

The only problem with the nightshade is you loose the glossy finish to the lights, and it gets worse the more coats you apply. My suggestion if your going to do this is get a panel shop to spay paint the lights with a clear coat that has a tinting agent mixed into it, so its still glossy while being darker. Check out low riders car if your not sure what I mean. Still don't look as good as the factory lights in my opinion, but a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the vr-x lights.

The TJ VR-X's look very tack on by todays standards if you ask me, it's all personal taste, but I much prefer the look of the completely different bars front and rear albeit more subtle, than a bolt on body kit.

Yeh i see what u mean. Thats why im thinking i might give it a try on the inside of the lense, hopefully that way the outter gloss is still noticable

I agree with what u say about the bolt on kit. Im very happy with the shape of the tl kit but still the tj looks tougher i rekon. But in saying this i didnt buy the car for toughness lol

i have just finished cutting my KF tail lights (the outer ones) and painting the inner black they look really good now i just have to do the boot lid ones, but i have no idea how these are held together as there are no visible glue lines like the outer ones
