Hi Guys,
I have just completed a manual conversion on my 2.6l Ts and it was alot easier than i expected!, Most people i talked to, also on this forum, have said that the ecu would need to be replaced, i have not done this and the car runs fine :-)
anyway, the only mods that had to be done were that 3 holes had to be drilled for the clutch master cyl and the only electrical change was that the 2 wires that would connect to the inhibitor switch were connected together and a plug soldered to the 2 wires for the reverse lights.
in total the conversion cost me about $800 and about a weekend stuffing arround, Well worth it ;-)
Any queries about the conversion feel free to msg me
Thanks
Pete

i had to cut a big hole for the cluch master cyl to poke through and 2 smaller holes for the bolts, didnt take long and because its only thin metal i used a holesaw, the holes are already marked on the inside of the firewall.
$800 was for parts, me and a mate put it all in, only took us about a weekend all up (was spread over a week though)
im guessing it would be easier in rwd car, most of the time was spent getting the old box out.....

Did you document what you did and how you did it?
This is awesome for a nice tech article :D
Good work mate!

now you're tempting me.....
what gearbox did you use? It sounds as if you used a really cheap gearbox or you managed a really good deal....

i was really suprised at the price, i was on the phone to the wreckers trying to get a new radiator (they only had manual radiators) and so i asked him how much for everything and he said 660 but you might need driveshafts which are $66 each. the box seems to be in really good condition too, even came with a clutch plate that still had a fair bit of meat on it.
i will look at documenting all this later

the box is as far as i can tell from a tr, also the wreck it came from was smashed in at the back., the front end was perfect! :D

This is for the 4cyl, it is as said a very easy conversion well done
The Verada is a bit different. First of all the gear box is a lot harder to find and more exxy.
Secondly, in the KS the ecu retards the timing when stopped, this reduces drag on the driveline at lights etc, this can be easily overcome with a slight adjustment. The third problem is the cruise control as it only works in forward gears, and when in this mode the engine will not start, it again can be worked around.

Just wondering what the brake pedal was for? Why couldn't you use the auto one?
petemal2000

the brake pedal on the auto is about twice as wide as the manual one, not sure if it would fit with the clutch there, either way, dunno about the legalities of having a huge brake pedal like that

next on the list is probably bonnet vents (only because i have to get the bonnet resprayed anyway). after that ill be installing an afermarket ecu (probably a haltech or wolf3d v4) then by the end of the year i will hopefully be sticking on a nice turbo :D

id thought about doing that (manual conversion that is) but was told it was too expensive and a lot of trouble. have to say now im reconsidering, and now that ive finally got some time on my hands it might become a holiday job. tho i might wait for you to write up how its done first.

What about getting stuff out of a TP?
I know my mum's TF has a similar chassis and that to the TR, would it be easy to retrofit the manual stuff from a TP?
The reason i ask is that you can pick a working one up for about 500 bucks.

Tp Gear wont fit, apparently the mounts are different, though i havent had a chance to confirm this, why would you want an older, weaker box when ya can get a tr/ts kit for not much more?
