Recently bought a new remote for my car as my only one was broken. Bought one off ebay worked perfectly for a little while.

Now it seems i have to re-program it every couple of days, if not more regularly. Seems to lose its ability to open/lock the car very quickly for no apparent reason. Replaced the battery with a new energizer one and it made no difference.

Thinking its a problem with the "receiver" or what ever you call it on my car? Suggestions on what to do? Getting well sick of having to reprogram the remote. When it works, it's perfect, no issues. But longest it seems to have stayed that way is a week or so.

Cheers
Timmy

Did the older remote exhibit the same problem? Try and program a friends remote to your car and see if it forgets about that too, that will rule out either remote or car.

Old one didn't work at all, was broken on the inside, hence the new one. Will try and borrow another remote at a meet

sometimes with these remotes the battery becomes disconnected from the board with any jolt because of the weak connections to the board and the fact that its not really secured inside the case very firmly. try putting some kind of wadding in there to keep the battery in there (i used a little bit of an old sock) or maybe tape it. just fyi when the battery gets disconnected from the board it needs to be reprogrammed. hope this helps.

The battery clip/holder has been hot glued or similar to the board inside the remote by the person I bought it off on eBay

its possible that they hot glued it badly? thats just what the issue was with mine

Yeah as far as I understand these working, they make up a code when they start hence you have to reprogram it each time, so I'm guessing the battery is coming loose. Hot glue may not be enough - unfortunately also will make it hard to get into the joints to see.

Try could try put a bit of paper inside the remote to put some pressure on it to keep it compressed/better connection - don't expect it to be perfect but if it helps you have some better idea it's that.

What I did was to resolder each joint with a piece of wire which relieves the load and is springy.

i have exactly the same problem it has been doing my head in. I will try the sock option.

There's some details here:

I did it a bit differently to save cutting the connector up (using wire, which helped prevent it from breaking again)

its very common for the connections between the battery holder and chip to break as the original solder is very weak. You can resolder the joints and then reprogram the remote. u can then hot glue it or tape it, but if you do it well enough u shouldnt have to. i fixed mine by slightly overdoing the solder joints and its better than ever
