hi all, i just put on some slotted rotors on my tj and fresh rda pads. and after taking it for a drive i noticed a bit of smoke coming from the brakes. also the rotors seem a little purpleish on the face? is it just because they are brand new? do they have a wearing in period maybe?

Did you give the discs a good clean to get the light coat of grease off.
That is prob the source of smoke and colourisation of the discs.

Yeah you needed to clean the surface first with brake cleaner, probably just the protective coating thats burnt off.

what they said, if you don't clean off the anti rust coating on them, you going to get an epic display of smoke from your wheels :)

been there done that, lesson learnt, never trust the state rep when he says 'I know what I'm doing!'

Hope it doesnt contaminate the pad, I had a brake balance issue recently, 46 percent difference on the front and turned out to be one pad was contaminated with grease or some thing, the pads were near new, but once i replaced them, i was back to normal.
