I've just recently bought a 2006 Series II, and wondering if there's any advantage in using 98RON premium fuel.
Does anyone here run their car on premium?

I think most of us use a 98RON fuel

Yeah 98 is the way to go. I recently did a stint using E10 and my fuel economy increased noticeably so it was straight back to premium. Dont like the price though!!

You should get a few extra K's out of a tank, IF, you don't let the better performance go to your head...

Oh cool.
Am loving driving an auto again, and am loving getting behind a six again as well. Love this car.
I'm more hoping it would provide gains in terms of performance or smoothness maybe, rather than mileage.

I pretty much always used 98 - but stopped for a few months when it was super expensive 1 or 2 years back.
You should notice better economy and extra oomph when the put the foot down (though too much of that and you lose the economy).
I did try 100 a few times (had a thread on it as there's a sole-United selling it close to here) but it didn't make much difference. Tried Optimax Extreme/V-Power+ a few times many years ago but it also didn't do much (except empty my wallet, bloody expensive stuff!).
Never used anything less than 98RON.
Don't intend to either :)

There are lots of theories flying around, heres mine:
The difference in power and economy of 98 in a car that wasn't tuned to take advantage of it, isn't "HUGE" - however they claim to contain different chemicals, cleaning agents - that help keep your car running better - which is the biggest advantage.
Plus your paying more for it, it's "likely" - but not necessarily - more refined and less likely to be crappy.

I dont think I've ever used anything other than Woolies 91. So have any of you guys found any particular brand of 98 better than others (Brad stated he likes BP) ?

I always use 98 but then being chipped I get the full benefit of power and economy. I can really tell the difference under the foot when going back to 91. My tune was on Ultimate but I also use V power a lot. can't tell any difference between them.

BP 98 Ultimate as recommended by TMR is the only fuel I use.
I get a check light whithin 10 minutes if I use shell v-power. (proven it over and over again)

vortex is caltex... do you mean shell? or vortex? or both?

I switch between Woolworths Caltex and BP .. very rarely go anywhere else. Trust those two brands. 95 or 98 don't think I've ever put a litre of 91 into anything .. certainly not anything I've owned. I go in whims on 95 or 98 - don't think it really matters all that much.

I only use Ultimate in my car and motorbike, and i can notice a difference especially when i put in 98 from united and i felt a power loss. in regards to economy the is no gain and if there was a gain it would be offset by the higher price of the fuel!!

shell V power twice a week is all i use. I once used caltex vortex to get back from melbourne once and on the free way compared to my prefered shell v power i noticed a HUGE decrease in the total kilometers for the whole tank on the caltex. Perhaps some hundred k.s i was very disappointed in the caltex vortex but everyone has there opinion on different fuels and mines shell V power all the way never tried bp ultimate cuase i think idf youve found something good stay with it. My two cents

I found the same the one time I used Caltex Vortex, I usually use V-Power but on the odd occasion I have used BP Ultimate I did notice an improvement in economy on the highway.

started using 'premium' fuel in 2001-tj-magna 3.5L, in about 2004, when premium was about 10% dearer, and got 12 to 15% better economy, hence cost effective
also found too much variation in quality of standard unleaded
premium fuel has been much more reliable in consistency, & i still use it exclusively in my 380
