Hi,

I am trying to replace the wishbone control arm in my TJ VRX but it's proving to be difficult.

I just want to confirm if i 100% need to compress the coils before i even try it? I have the coil compressors but they dont fit in the minuscule cavity that mitsubishi has left me with to even try and compress them.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Sean

you can remove the spring/shock assembly without the need for the compressors, only when you remove the spring from the shock do you need to.

Sorry, it's the front.

So how do i safely disconnect this wishbone arm without anything springing open at me? I always thought that even when up on a jack, when that arm is drooping as low as it can that the coils are still under some sort of pressure

Thanks again.

disconnect the lower part of the suspension, its held in by 2 bolts lined up vertically on the wheel hub, when the car is jacked up its not under much tension. ive done it many times. best to have a helping hand, i usally get someone to stand on the lower arm. if you get what i mean.
edit: oh and when the strut is disconnected make sure you dont tear your CV boot.

mate, you are thinking Holden, put away those dirty nasty thoughts and welcome yourself to the McPherson Front Strut world lol

You simply unbolt the strut, leave it hanging in the car, undo the lower ball joint, hit the lower knuckle from the side to dislodge the taper, undo the 2 lower bushes and the sway bar and it should all but fall out for you

Yeah in the end it was pretty easy hey. Did exactly what you just wrote. Got a mate to help us and it only took about an hour and a half to do all up. Car drives allot better now without the bent control arm :)

Easy as pie.

Thanks again.
