On the weekend I finally got around to scoping out installing my new splits into my TJ but the wiring kind of scared me. You've got the wiring for the factory speakers along with the wiring for the electric windows and the courtesy light coming out of the grommet that runs from the body into the door, then the factory seems to have taped the f**k out of the wires so they're all bound together.
I'm sure some of you have dealt with this before - did you bother removing the factory speaker wiring or just leave it there and run the new stuff along side?
Leave the factory speaker wires there and run the new ones next too it. That way when you sell the car you can return the stereo back to stock. :)
How Important is it to run new speaker wire?? say for a set of 240W speakers?

Depends how thorough a job you want to do? The factory wires are probably good for applications of up to around 40WRMS as they are very thin. I made a tool that is basically a bent piece of coathanger wire about 6" long. Whatever cable I want to pull through the door grommet I solder to the end of the coathanger and tape it up so it's smooth and doesn't pinch, then unclip both ends of the grommet and use the coathanger to pull the cable through. Easy 5min job.

hehe.. yeah, it is a plush cthulhu doll. I still keep a copy handy over here (http://www.wermspowke.net/cthulhu.jpg). When I get bored of having my car as the avatar he'll probably come back.
BTW, you can actually buy them from ToyVault (http://www.toyvault.com/cthulhu/plush_cthulhu.html)
