I have heard that an LSD in a TR is not common, when I reefed up the handbrake in mine and spun the wheels it left a black mark on both sides, it doesn't really suffer from torque steer so how can I check if it is an LSD. If it isn't is there a LSD auto I can bolt to to the 2.6 L Astron, or as it is a recently rebuilt auto can I just change the diff part. Sorry I am a newbie, this is the 2nd FWD car I have owned and the 1st was a car I bout for my ex when we were together and all I was allowed to do was general service items.

Jack the car up and spin the front wheels by hand. If both turn in the same direction, you have an LSD, but it won't and you don't. :) (note this doesn't apply for geared LSDs but thats another matter)

Geared LSD, do you mean a 5spd manual box ?

No. Though I think I might've opened a can of worms on this.

Granted its a bit wordy but it explains the types and differences between the various types of LSDs.
Also there isn't an LSD you can bolt to the auto gearbox for the TR. The reason you left black marks on boths sides of the road when doing what you did was due to torque converter lockup.

just jack up the front and discover that the wheels spin in opposite directions.

LOL ok, thanks guys I've heard of something like a f4a33 Auto that is LSD and I'm wondering if I can put that on an astron and sorry - how does torque converter lock up make it drive both wheels I'm still learning about the make up of the FWD breed

Torque converter lockup was the cause of you spinning both wheels while doing your little burnout?

Please try again, still not getting what you are trying to say.
I should've stated. What you have posted is wrong. The torque converter locking up is somewhat irrelevant to the fact that the car left 2 marks/spun both wheels.

Just going off what I was told. Feel free to step in here.

I actually did it in my garage on white concrete, wouldn't do a burnout on the road not worth the trouble. Had fun scrubbing it off with sand and a wire brush lol. I am just waiting for a friend to come around with another jack and then I'll jack it up and turn the wheel and see what the other one does.

No worries, so like a RWD single spinner if it spins both does that mean something is stuffed in the transaxle ?

As i stated in another thread, my brother put a secondhand F4A33EVS in his KS and we found it has an lsd, but this was probably done aftermarket as we dont have any info on the car it came from. Im in NZ. (its a V3000, aussie made)

No mention of LSD's in any of the brochures here but I will skim over them and see what I can find. See what google has to offer on that part number first. never seen an "EVS" model of the F4A33. only seen the F4A33 and 3.

I wouldn't have thought just because you have an open diff doesn't mean you can't spin up both wheels. Certainly harder I guess..
I did a super mini burnout in my TL manual at the drags with open diff and both wheels smoked. My dad did the same in his TF auto but a huge one (again, at the strip) .. neither had LSDs at the time (I've since put one in mine)

You can smoke up two wheels off an open diff provided forces acting upon the wheels are similar, so if we're talking a burnout pad at the drags, flat ground, both wheels wet and flat foot, then it will smoke up two wheels without a problem, ripping it around a corner however will light one wheel and not two.
