Hey guys,
found my one and only problem in my new TS....
replaced the brake pads the other day...
when braking from high speeds the steering wheel wobbles rather violently...
I am thinking this could either be the steering rack or the disc rotors?
if anyone has had any similar problems or knows whats happening help would be appreciated..
Cheers,
Pickles

could just be the shocks
how good are the tyres out of round.... half worn
tyre balance or air pressure
warped rotors (how did they look when you did the pads)
are the new pads bedded in yet ?
any leaks in the powersteering

shocks are good, tyres are at least 70%....
I havent checked the air pressure, I will....
no leaks in the p.s and the pads have been on for a couple of days now... the same problem occured with the old brakes...
I didnt properly inspect the rotors while I was changing the pads, an ametuers mistake on my part.
I might jack it up and get the wheels off... have a look...
Cheers
You should always, if possible, that is legally possible, machine the rotors before fitting new pads. Now, depending on how bad the rotors are, you may need to replace the pads as well. Rotors must maintain minimum thickness so if it is already at its thinnest, you'll need new rotors.

yeah your rotors may need machining or replacing, depending how much material youve got left
if thats not it, theres a chance it might be control arm bushes

I have the same problem on my TS - but then I have a surface crack on one rotor. Time for new ones I think lol Have a look, but your problem could just be wheel alignment.

New DBA rotor's cost me $62 each from bursons, which is pretty damn good.
Problem is warped rotors or a crap wheel alignment. get a wheel alignment/wheel balance and do the rotors, should fix the problem dude.

Did you have the problem before you fitted the new brake pads?
If not, most likely the rotors. If you did, then a wheel allignment and wheel balance would be the first things I would do. If it is anything else to do with the steering, it should be found during the wheel allignment.

Thanks for the help guys,
I will try and book it in for a wheel allignment right after I sell my old car and see how it goes from there...

Vibration when braking at high speeds is most likely to be warped rotors. Others like wheel alignment, steering problems and wheel balance issues will cause vibrations at certain speeds regardless of whether braking or not.

The vibration mostly happens when braking between 90-70 km/h and 55-40 km/h... so this sorta does suggest brake rotors...
I need a wheel allrignment anyway so I will do it aswell.
