Hi guys

I'm new to 3rd gens..... I have seen talk that a 2nd gen transmission cooler (off a KS for example) will work with a 3rd gen....

How hard would it be to set up? Is there a spot to bolt one on? Can it be done?

Cheers!

the cooler i have fitted is bigger than the 2nd gen one
i would recommend 2 of them to get a good effecient coolin capacity

I'm doing the transmission cooler today on my KJ AWD. I have located the transmision lines but the only problem is that I don't know which is the send line and which is the return. any advise greatly appreciated.

BTW I have been through these forum posts and I did find a DIY trans cooler guide but it didn't list which lines were which. This is for an INVECS II 5 speed .

Go down to your local auto shop and grab a manual dude. Or there is a 3rd gen factory manual you can download in PDF form :)

WTF Neo? It's a simple question for someone who knows and would like to share. That is one of the main purposes of a forum you know, sharing information, tips and suggestions and helping each other out, so we don't have to do stupid things like spend $50 dollars buying a manual to answer one question.

I have a CD manual already but my computer is broke. and internet on my phone is too crap around here to download a pdf manual, hence why I'm using this forum.

Anyway, getting back to the question, can anyone advise which line is the return line / send line for the auto trans cooler? I have located them but ì don't know which one is which. Any help greatly appreciated.

Update. All sorted. I found another article where a member posted that the return line was the cooler one when the car has been warmed up.

Neat work BUT be careful not to over cool the trans, please get a trans thermostat and get that in the system asap

Living in Canberra, overcooling is the one concern I did have - but not while towing (done nearly 27,000km of that). The way I did the plumbing, the auxilliary cooler takes its the feed from the transmission before it goes to the cooler in the radiator. That allows the stock cooler to add a little extra cooling if the oil's still too hot after exiting the auxilliary cooler and, conversely, to warm it up again if it's too cool. So far, I've done in excess of 60,000km with this setup with no problems whatsoever.

I had thought of getting something like this: http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=2&Product_Code=708-4739&Category_Code=cooler-fittings but haven't found anywhere in Aus that stocks them or an equivalent.

About a year ago, I managed to buy a Tru-Cool bypass thermostat from the US & install it. The updated doco can now be viewed at: http://www.4shared.com/office/Bsu_uonN/TW_VR-X_AWD_Transmission_Oil_C.html
