View Full Version : Solid rear engine mount

Hey guys,

I need a new rear engine mount, and instead of a shitty stock one or getting one made for way too much does anyone know who to source a solid one through? I had a solid one in the past but it disintegrated and cant remember where i got it from.

Any pointers would be great, cheers.

If your solid one desintegrated i would assume it was a polyureathane solid mount? If you get a spare from the wreckers you can make your own. Just buy some 60 or 80 shure* polyureathane from trade stores. COmes in a sausage. There are step by stpes on the web for how to do it.

If not get a spare one and get someone to mock up a plate steel one. Just need a base, a steel tube and spacers to acheive good hieght and placement over the base.

Could always just knock out the current rubber one and pour some lead into it. Rubber isn't solid!

does anyone know what the tensile strength should be? the tear strength? I've got 3 or 4 shore A 70+ to choose from, they have different tensile and tear strengths though

Can be done yourself, clean out the rubber and pour in something that will set fairly hard, like the stuff used to glue in windshields. Line the bits up, pour it in, let it set and trim up. A week at room temp to cure, or a low oven for a few hours to speed things up. lol Messy but effective. See above link. I wouldn't bother drilling holes in it though.

They use them fairly regularly in the 3000gts. Higher HP definately will keep tearing them to shreds.

These are not designed for street use, would make the car feel like a pig and be 100 times worse than these poly mounts. I have fitted several sets of poly mounts and they feel horrible, every vibration can be felt through the car and the noise is horrible.

The rear roll stop may be ok but the main RH one I would not dream of doing on my car in a pink fit

As for solid mounts like these, in street applications you will have many other issues start as well as the engine is meant to move a little

Yeah i thoroughly agree, as i think Jase will, i'd only consider doing the rear. The poly mounts are probably a better option.

I definately dont mind a rough ride though. (Thats what she said)
