Can anyone tell me if it's possible to get glass headlight lenses for the TJ. I want to increase the brightness of the beams but I'm told if I increase the wattage the poly lenses will turn an creamy colour.

is it a one piece parabolic or 2 piece????
if its a one piece which i think are the only one with polylense , then its unfortunately impossible.
2 piece one i dont think they came with poly lesnses but if they did you will be able to find glass lenses for it.
btw the Parabolics alrady have very nice brightness (almost 100% better than std magna lights.
i would say to add either fog lights (which in AWD , sports , verada and VRX comes std) and you can run them all the time and because they got glass lenses you can upgrade the blubs in them. :)
I wish if only we can have aftermarket HID's for our magna's

I found out the other day there is a $79 Fine in NSW for using Fog lights with oncoming traffic. Don't know if this is the same across the other states.

The Victorian law is as follows:
Q57: When can I use the fog lamps on my car
A: There is no restriction on the use of front fog lamps. However the lamps must be correctly aimed as fog lamps so as not to dazzle other road users. Rear fog lamps may only be lit in abnormal weather conditions.

On the sportz models are the lights fog lights or driving lights??
My understanding is that fog lights are yellowish.

Yup, NSW has some 'additional' rule (supplement to the road rules) that you may only use foglamps in circumstances of 'limited' visibility, a TIN can be issued for it.

They are fog lamps. Its not about the colour, but rather the location on the car and the projection angles of the beam. Fog lamps have a wide short throw, whereas driving lamps have a long narrow (comparatively) throw.

Its only illegal to use fog lights with driving lights. Although i've had both fogs and driving on every night since i bought the car and been past plenty of police and haven't had any problems.

Before too much more discussion goes on about this let's clarify a few things (please feel free to correct me or add to these descriptions):
1. Fog lights: Can be Yellow or White (and rear fog lights must be red). They are not defined by their colour, but are defined by their mounting position (ie. the whole unit is mounted lower than the headlights) and the way the light is diffused (ie. a short, wide beam). They must be wired to only come on when the headlights (or the parkers) are switched on.
2. Driving Lights: Otherwise known as "Spot Lights" are White (however, you can get blue, red etc. for emergency services, but for civilians, they're white). Should preferably be mounted at the same height as the headlights, or higher. Driving Lights, as opposed to Fog or Head Lights, have a much longer narrow and/or slightly wider beam of light, and are usually much more intense, brighter, powerful etc. Usually seen mounted on bullbars of 4WDs. Generally they come in sets of two, one very long narrow beam, and one slightly wider, no so long. I believe they are available in two power outputs: 55W and 100W (or is that 110W?). It is most certainly illegal to use Driving Lights with on-coming traffic, and they MUST be wired so they can only be operated when the high-beams are on.
I read about the fine in two independent posts on the Ford Forums about XR6/8/FPV drivers getting pulled over by the police (in NSW) and one was let off with a warning, but was told he would've been fined $79, and the other was given the $79 On-The-Spot fine. According to the cops it is like this: If there is no fog, you may not use your fog lights, and you run the risk of getting fined plus losing 2 points. Which is a bummer, cause in the Old Man's XR6 that little bit of extra light definitely gives me more confidence in my surroundings, especially on unknown roads.

1) Both fog lights and driving lights you can pretty much mount any where but when they come as factory std both of them are normally mounted in the lower section of the front bumper.
2) in 90 % of the cars Factory fitted Aux lights are Fog lights.
3) Difference between white / yellow : Yellow light gives you much more visibility during heavy fog / Rainy conditions.
if you have a look at All Weather lights by most of the manufacturers they are a bit yellowish.
4) Red Fogs : i have see them on big trucks on highways on their front bars but when the are off.
5) One thing which can cause you fine even in Vic is if the lights are not properly alligned. So you have to make sure they are on road not on to oncoming traffic. a common example of factory non alligned lights is the Fog lights on Commodoers.
6) 80% of the people who get after market lights normally get driving lights rather than fog lights. and you really need them if you drive cars build before 1990 specially and some of them got really poor lightining.
anyway my Fogs are normally turned on all the time when i am driving and never being stoped in last 4 years irespective of which ever car i was driving so i think its okay in Vic. but i also went to Sydney lastyear and did had any problem there either.

I guess the issue also comes down to whether the cop wants to be a Kuku and stops you for switching on your foggies, I've seen so many cars in Victoria. including some cop pursuit cars with foggies on at night....

Thanks for the replies.
My AWD doesn't have driving lights, the dick who had it before me didn't order it with them.
I have 2 piece paras and yes they are poly lenses. So if glass lenses are available where can one get them.

i think you might be able to get some 2nd hand 2 piece Verad lights just cehk the For sale section, for around $450
from 2 piece = indicator and head lamp seperate , like in early model Veradas
1 Piece = like sports/vrx lights in which all is built into one

Unfortunatly, while there is aftermarket HID's around, the glare box in the parabolics is too close to the return wire - it would arc out and blow the ballast.
Only HID's you can retrofit to the magnas are Audi TT/ BMW e46 - They do fit, they are a little cramped though. The difference between HID and the sports headlights is night and day - they wash out the headlights from every other car I have driven next to bar an S2000 - but they were so close it wasn't funny anyways.
I will have to post pics of the completed lights, I have been a bit slack of late :(
Cheers
