Those of us lucky to have some low end in our system :What made you go with the Sub you went with?
The Format is Easy to Follow :
Brand :
Series :
Size :
Price (If you can remember)
Enclosure:
Pic Of your Sub.. RAW (Not in an Enclosure)
and Finally the reason why you chose it.. Allow me to go first as an Example.
Downsides: What you have had go wrong or find annoying about your sub choice
Brand: Magnat
Series: XTC 1200
Size: 12 inch
Price Purchased 4 years ago $299 each
Enclosure Ported
http://www.automarket.bg/avitel/magnat/images/xtc1500.jpg
Reason for Choice
I went for the Magnat XTC 1200 as they are a long throw Subwoofer meaning they can move alot of air with little power.
They are a heavy cast sub with a vented chrome backplate so they are very Bling when installed in a perspex enclosure and disperse heat rather effectively.
They can take 600W RMS but are happy to go loud with only 150W RMS.
There response is nice and tight and sound good with everything from ATB to Metallica.
They Feature Screw down terminals for accepting up to 8 Gauge speaker wire and are easy to bolt in and bolt out.
Downside
They dont make them anymore.
The centre dust cap used to fly off when you cranked them up to their full potential but this was fixed by Magnat under warranty.
The Weight. They are nearly 5kg each!
The rubber surround on the sub is nearly an inch and half wide. this prevents you from installing any sort of speaker protection.
Depth of the cast is also an issue when you want to install them into a prefab enclosure... they dont fit.

I will only do my last 2 woofers
Brand : Oz Audio
Series : ME 12.2
Size : 12inch
Price : <$600
Enclosure: I had it in a sealed. Guy I sold it to has it ported.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 - it up there with the big boys, without the price tag.
http://www.rawedge.com/ozaudio/images/oz_me12_sm.gif
Pros:
Huge excursion, this was built to rumble like a proper sub should.
U surround it not wide giving maximum cone area and still maintaining 25+mm Xmax.
Rumbles like a 15 but is as tight as a 10 - exactly what I was after for variations of RnB, Dance etc.
Loud! For those days you like to dial in the volume.
150oz Magnet.
Built like you could drop it off a cliff and it would still work.
Tinsel leads woven into the spider ( a must for me!! ).
Will work in a 1cuft sealed. For better SQ up to 1.5cuft will do the trick. I had mine at 1.2cuft.
Cons:
Weight - it is un the 10-15kg range.
The 700WRMS rating, it likes a LOT more.
The rattles and flex that occurs to your car.
Surround sticks out a bit so you need towel racks to protect it.
Although the woofer is built rock solid, it looks like the ugly duckling. Until it is in motion that is..
That I sold mine :(

Current Woofer
Brand : Polk
Series : MM1040 DVC
Size : 10inch
Price : Approx $250
Enclosure: Sealed 0.8cuft. Recommend 0.66cuft.
Rating: 3 out of 5 - Good woofer for the price, not really my cup of tea
http://i.testfreaks.com/images/products/110x90/11/polk-audio-mm1040-dvc.4305675.jpg
Pros:
Fit in the Factory RF box in the CJ Lancer ( wife approved ).
Is a very well finished, well constructed woofer even though it is made in China.
Cheap for the features.
Slim design without claiming to be slim. Mounting depth is only 114mm for the 10, 118mm for the 12inch.
Tinsel Leads woven into the spider
Very punchy but needs a bigger that recommended box to low the -3db point a bit.
Handles 400WRMS without any issues.
Sounds a lot better than most other "slim" woofers on the market.
Doesn't weigh much.
Cons:
Doesn't play as low as some of the serious woofers I have had.
Not much other than that - sounds pretty dam good otherwise for the $$$ and has the wifes stamp of approval ( what else matters lol ).
Has more punch then rumble - ok for the size

You dont have to be a pro... You just need to know about the Junk in your trunk and why you chose it..

Downsides : None that I can find. Had it running faultlessly over 6 years.

I was looking for some thing that was efficient, musical and still went low. Not interested in massive doof, but in tight accurate bass. After much discussion with Marty from FHRX I ordered it and it fits the bill perfectly. Very happy with it. Yellow is also an eye catcher!
Cons: Only issue I have with it is the mounting screws that are provided are CRAP. I snapped the heads off 4 of them before throwing them out and getting some stainless screws.

jeebus are the x-maxes listed peak to peak?
magnat

Usually Xmax figures are total movement from peak to peak.. Essentially it is how far the cone will move before it rips.
