hi guys n girls,
just was wondering if anyone out there could help me out:
in the next few weeks I'm looking at ripping open my dash to
have a look at the wiring on my Pioneer DEH-9450MP. it was
installed over 12 months ago by brisbane car sound.
basically, the stock unit had 2 modes radio and cd. when cd
mode was on or the unit was powered off the electric antenna
was down. when the radio was on the antenna popped up.
after Pioneer install the antenna goes up with both radio and cd.
I was wondering if it had anything to do with the wiring, and if so,
how do I wire it back to get the original functionality.
if I can't do that, then I'm just going to try disconnecting the
antenna altogether because I hate it when it's up and I don't
listen to the radio anyway!!
many thanks :) :)
hmm...thats interesting...i'm sure some genius here will figure something out, but i can't
our pajero came stock with a clarion 6stack system, and the arial goes up whenever u turn it on, no matter if u're listening to the radio, cd or tape...

if u dont have an amp, i would suggest that your power antenna is connected directly to your remote wire which switches anything on as soon as you switch the H.U on!
if not then i dont know

If the Pioneer has a dedicated antenna wire then the factory antenna wire should be hooked up to that. Otherwise you have to hook up the factory wire to the head unit's Amp wire, in which case the antenna will be extended whenever the unit is turned on.
if u dont have an amp, i would suggest that your power antenna is connected directly to your remote wire which switches anything on as soon as you switch the H.U on!
if not then i dont know
aren't the voltages of the remote and arial diff? if u had an amp u could also use a relay if u follow this idea..

Pioneer headunits are not set up like many other HUs.
They do not have a seperate "antenna" wire, they only have a "Remote" wire, which is normally used for an Amp.
The "Remote" wire on my Pioneer headunit, a DEHP7350, is connected to my two amps and my electric antenna.
Because I hardly listen to the radio also, I installed a switch in series with the remote wire that runs to the antenna.
If the switch is on, the antenna goes up and down normally, when the HU switches on and off.
If the switch is off, the antenna will not go up, even if the headunit is on.
(Note: The remote wire that runs to the antenna is pink in colour. It will be connected to the blue "Remote" wire on your Pioneer headunit) :)

Yeah i did the same with my VRX. Basically my I used my remote wire to trigger the arial and installed a switch so when its off the arial is down and when its on the arial is up.
Its also the same voltage as the remote so its all good :D

yeah i double confirm what is all said above - Pioneer on that unit don't have a wire for the arial and the amp remote - they are the one and the same - so if you don't like the arial up - either D/C it - or do as above and put in and inline switch to put it up and down whenever you want.
I was gonna do this - but got slack and never worried about it - i can't see the arial when it's up - so what do i care!! haha

one last question:
do I have to disconnect the battery to muck about with that wire or am I okay just to go ahead and do it?
thx

You dont have to disconnect the battery to do that but you should disconnect whenever you do any electrical work on your car as a safety precaution. I forgot to do it today and now I have to get another fuse . Iv heard of all types of fuses being blown, alarms reset/stuffed and ECUs being fried, just a safety thing.
I put a switch on the 12v constant on my headunit, it comes in handy because you dont have to d/c the battery and reprogram the alarm/clock etc.
BTW I blew the fuse on the amp power lead (the switch on the HU didnt come into it)...its got a quick release plug on the battery too...damn I wish I remembered!

Glad to have helped again!!
Oh - and yes to all - it is wise to D/C the battery before working on the electricals!! Saves getting Zapped - or zapping something!!
But don't forget to plug the battery back up before testing it - or you end up doing what i have done once or twice before - being dumbfounded as to why i have no power ;)
haha

Philtrid, Check this out!!
Aerpro (http://www.aerpro.com/cgi-bin/list.cgi?list=harnesses5)
Pre wired harnesses!
You can get them from Wes Components, about $11. Haven't tried it yet but might save
alot of headaches.
