ok today i decided to test my new front speakers with my 2 channel boss amp which usually runs my sub.
so wired it all up as per usual with every other amp i have installed. Turned it on, a weird noise that seemed to be getting louder came from the amp, no music came from anywhere (even from 6x9s in the back running off the head unit only), so i quickly turned off the head unit.
Got out of the car and heard a noise under the hood, quickly popped the hood and it seemed that something got damn hot cos the black sound deadening stuff on the underside of the hood, and a tiny bit of the batttery cover had melted slightly just near the amp power wire.

I disconnected the negative terminal to the battery, disconnected the amp power wire from the positive, checked all fuses (the one 15cm from the car battery on the amp power wire, on back of head unit, the one at the amp, the fuse box under the hood and the fuse box at the bottom right passenger side) and all seemed fine. I checked the grounding of everything, was fine.

Keeping the amp power wire disconnected i hooked the front speakers back up to the head unit, thus all 4 speakers were being run off the head unit, then connected the negative battery terminal up. Turned on head unit, it works fine, plays a CD, but NO noise from any speaker.

Any ideas sound gurus?

yeh its got me baffled, cos i have experimented and moved this boss amp around heaps and hooked it up about 10 times previous, but never this problem. If its dead then it doesnt concern me too much (just means my new amp will have to be 4-channel) but i am rather worried about the $1500 head unit

Edit: speakers arent dead cos i tested it using another pair of speakers after all this happened, still nothing.
