6000rpm is the redline. but yeah, like u said in an old engine u probably shouldnt b taking it that high. take it to around 4800rpm if racing, but no further. this is where peak power is anyway

In my old TP efi auto, with the power button off it would rev to about 5000, with the power button on it would rev to about 5500.

To TM-SE-RED,thank's you. :D
Yeh same as what TM-se said, 4000-4500 is about where i change, my cars done less then 80 thousand k's and i dont wanna rev it to redline, although ive done it in second and i got to 100kph or so close enough for me anyway.

what are you's scared of  the red line is put there for a reason, dont go above it for too long and ur right....
brendan dont be a skirt and rev it out. the further u rev into a gear the higher rpm the next is in when u change up ;)
take it to 7 like me

as long as the engine is warm, you have good oil in, and a newish oil filter, revving your engine doesn't harm it.
Just watch out if the engine has been granny around for year and years. carbon builds up on the top of the cyl bore where the rings havent reached ever.. when the car gets overly warm from your thrashing the rods expand a fraction more than normal and u can end up slightly damaging ur rings. work it upto the redline slowly and your fin :D

take it to 7000rpm like u? how u know ur doing that, charade dosent have a tacho :bowrofl: .
to b on the safe side, dont take it to 6000. it shouldnt matter about overreving in a gear to get to the power band in the next gear cause the astrons are a torquey engine and so even if revs drop to around 2500-3000 (which im sure it does wen u take 1st to 5000) this is just after peak torque (around 2,400 i think it is) and it'll b giving u everything it has. ive found the quickest times youll get is if u change every gear at 4,800rpm.

HAHA NO TACHO HOW CRAPS THAT HAAAHAHAH :bowrofl:
yer i would have to agree dont take it passed 6000, i find its pointless any way cos it looses the power by then and your better off changing gears as it would go faster
Yeah over 5 grand and she starts slowing down ahaha
