Hey Guys!

96 TE Altera - had the old fabled 'o' rings go, and coolant leaked over the ECU.

Is there an easy way to change the ECU? Or do i pull almost the entire dash out?

What does the little black BOSCH box on the inside drivers side ov the console (lower part)? Passenger side is cruise module, correct?

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers,
Lyall

You need to pull the whole dash out to change the heater core seals. No other easy way around it. Heater core replacement.
(http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?66385-Heater-Core-Query&p=1020809#post1020809)Dead ECU, I think you have to change the ECU and BEM togeather as they are coded. PM Mal Madmagna (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/member.php?18-Madmagna), he'll know for sure.

EDIT: You can pull the cover off your ECU and give it a good flush out with a can of contact cleaner. No guarantees it will work but is what I would do before replacing it.

Had a mechanic come out and replace the 'O' Rings, and he used contact cleaner on the ECU, but probably only at the connector.

The issue is, that the car keeps going into "Limp Home" (the Neutral light flashes when the auto slush-box is in Drive position) .

I have obtained a replacement ECU from the wreckers and they provided me with the little black BOSCH box also.

According to "Mitsi-Bits" the ECU does both Engine and Trans for this model, IS THIS CORRECT????

Turned out to be the "Output Pulse Alternator" that was buggered.
Fault codes were 41 & 46 Reverse Not Sync'd, and 1st Not Sync'd.
Just an FYI for anyone else with this issue.
