I found myself a bit of 110k open road all to myself today and really planted the right foot to see how much torque steer I would get and how quick I would get away. I reckon I was just rolling in first at about 10kph and really gave it some throttle. It revved upto about 3500 rpm before much happened then it really took off. Very little torque steer!. In my old SS the throttle would kick back, totally different, Anyone else tried this?

:io:Get a Supercharger .......... you will soon see how useless the Traction Control is on a 380

I reckon it would be something to behold. I,ve driven a turbo but not supercharged

Main difference is lots of torque off idle. At night it is a bit like a "Yellow Light Disco" under hard acceleration in 1st & 2nd

:hmm: Should change that to blue light

Is torque steer an issue under WOT?

You really need to start from a stop not rolling and the torque steer will kick in at WOT as will the little yellow light

IMO the TC is pretty good and you hardly notice it unless you need to get the hell out of somewhere and a front wheel lifts in the air

Instant engine cut

Fooz I reckon purple would be a better colour for the TC

The reason I was rolling was I had turned right at a T junction onto the fast piece of road and going pretty slow made sure my wheels were straight before I planted the right boot. What struck me as strange was the revs rose to 3500 before I took off (almost like a turbo lag) I wasnt aware of the TC kicking in or was the delay the TC?
Must try it again

Nah probably just regular tranny lag

I find with the Dunlop tyres I have it doesn't need to kick in at all from a hard launch from a stand still. Just grips and goes!

It's not an issue just gets really floaty in the front in the lower gears, tends to track the road if uneven.

No engine cut with the blower, it all happens so quick the TC has no idea what is going on.

Purple would be good to match my knob when I bury my foot lol

That would make a good SIG for some one LOL

in Apricot Rockets SC magna same thing happens the TC has NFI whats is happening

and that thing hauls ARSE !!!!!

Hey Fooz.... I notice looking at your spec you have the 70mm throttle body.
There hasnt been (i dont think) a thread on this. What is the benefit of this upgrade?

A lot sharper throttle response not sure if anything else.

A few people have tried this throttle body with no success & CEL issues. Mine however works fine.

I never lose traction when planting the right foot off the line. The rubber really grips and goes!

(But plant it at 60km/h+ over a curved traffic light intersection with uneven road surface and it squeals the rubber and i get the TC light flashing like a disco)

Must be the oil residue on the road near traffic lights.

A Supercharged auto has lots of traction problems off the mark in 1st even at part throttle. I would hate (love ) to see what a manual would be like! A quick takeoff is usually half throttle (wheel spin) back off get traction then feed the power back on otherwise its lots of engine & exhaust noise & a crap load of wheelspin + the TCL Christmas tree on the dash. (Come on Blackstar where's the LSD????)

Don't forget it works by reducing torque and therefore wheelspin - so normally you shouldn't notice it except for what you stated, i.e the engine reving but no action until some speed is acheived and then full torque reinstated.

Since getting the Quaife fitted in my TL .. despite only stock it's quite interesting to really feel it bite onto the other wheel.

Would love to try that in FI.. be great to see the results of the Quaife 380 mod as I'm sure the SC 380 owners will be up for that.. seriously even with stock power it makes a difference at least in my manual.. in the auto I suspect it's a bit less of a problem due to the torque convertor take up, not to mention traction control (when stock).. but once you stick the supercharger in on the auto then I guess your well back into that territory :)

As you know I'm not S/C but mine has a few mods and it goes pretty well.

I have 245/35 ZR19 Maxxis MA-Z1 rubber which is reasonably grippy.

As with Fooz, I can't give it much more than half throttle at take off without masses of TCL action and wheelspin. The TCL doesn't seem to do much at all. Once I get to say 20km/h on half throttle, if I then floor it in first it spins all the way to second, all the way through second to 80km/h and then lays a chirpy on the second to third change. I *should* be able to get a mid six second 0-100km and a low 14 quarter mile, but the wheelspin just kills me. An LSD is definitely my next major mod!

KJ.

Mate definitely get an LSD, that would frustrate the crap out of me not being able to get the power down. It annoys me in mine that I can't just boot it & go but have to feather the throttle or take off slow before booting it.

I have the same size rubber as you in a Yokohama Advan Sport, thinking I might need to go a stickier compound next time maybe the Advan Neova AD08??

It was interesting to hear last night, watching Motive DVD - one of the guys with an R35 race car - they changed from 20" wheels down to 18" wheels and it screws up the ABS system and they actually had to unplug it.

So if you go figure, the TCL is quite possibly good enough for stock juice and nothing more in terms of programming. Can you put your foot down in a stock 380?

No. It''ll still wheelspin but the TCL helps. Mind you the stock tyres don't help.

Yeah well you know, us guys in a manual don't just mash the throttle to the floor, give progression a try occasionally :P

Actually I did try mashing the throttle to the floor once, this happened:

(hint: thats a stock magna diff, and in the middle is at least one - although there were about 10 teeth which were mostly obliterated :P)
