I would like to know how I can change the Dash Speakers factory wires. I need to change them to 12 or 10 gauge wire as I am connecting them to an amp (50 watt RMS per channel).

What are you putting in those dash mounts that is gonna take a huge amount of power?

Erm.. I thought I need to change the factory wire as I am connecting them to an amp (50 watt RMS per speaker). Correct me if i am wrong. But I did recall someone say about changing them as the factory wire can't handle too much power.

If the factory wiring can't handle 50w of power to the dash mount speakers, then any speaker that size (the hole is 4-5") wouldn't be able to handle it either.
All I am saying is you should not need to change the wiring for any speakers that can be mounted there. Nothing will crash and burn. And 50w isn't a significant amount of power anyway, the cables will handle that power. They don't make too many high powered 5" speakers either.
But for your info, one way you can change the wiring is take apart the dash. Another idea is to tie your new cable to one end of the old cable, and pull it out, at the same time it will feed through the dash. However it may not work if the existing wiring is cable tied somewhere behind the dash.

if you are just replacing the cables for the 4" in the dash, then good luck to a nightmare. also if it's only 50w the current size should be able to handle it.
i would advise you to leave the dash speakers alone and get some decent speakers for the doors. the dash reflects the music and it just sounds like sh|t.
BTW i have some 5 1/4" splits and they eat 100WRMS each and they are willing to eat some more. they are diamond audio btw.
hi guys
just wanted to know what is the biggest speaker that can fit in the factory dash location for a 1993 magna sedan??
is 4.5inch the biggest without having to mod the stock location???
any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers jonathon
i hav 4.5" Pioneer 100w in there....and i had to cut the plastic underneath coz the magnet was too big, and this was of the smallest magnets i could find. Its a real nightmare cutting the plastic out through the speaker hole, unless u take the window out.....which woulda kinda make u think whether its worth it at all?
I can honestly say that putting 6" speakers in the doors would be alot better and save u the hassles of sitting there with a little bit of a hack saw cutting out the plastic to make the 4.5" fit. And they'll sound better too.

i cant beleive you even managed to fit in something as big as that.
I put in some 50wrms 4" speakers in my front dash and i had to cut the plastic out for the magnet and they still barely fitted. but utterly agree Samurai about speakers in the door sounding a heap better but as always its a matter of can i/you/anyone be bothered with the amount of time spent doing it. Unless you have the money to get a car audio place to put in pods.
