I have spent hours trying to search and get the answer to my questions!

I want to install a set of front coilovers off an EVO 8 into my KJ wagon.

Are they a direct bolt in fitment? Can I use the strut tops??

Anything else to look out for?

Thanks in advance for any replies....

I just chucked a set of 18" Tarmacs on my wagon- the front is still sitting too high for my liking, even with super lows....

Here's a teaser pic- more (and better quality) ones to come

Will fit...with a little work, just use the std magna tops or get some aftermarket adjustable ones. The 8's use bigger bottom bolts than the magna, the DMS ones I have run camber adjust inserts in the bottom holes and I just made up some to suit the magna bolt holes, could probably do the same thing. You will need a shim on the hub as well, as the mounting point on the hub is ~1mm (from memory) wider on the EVO 7-9 than the magna or evo 5 & 6.

Remember to take into account the amount of camber u want to run before u decide on bottom hole mounting options...and don't just put std magna bolts through the big holes with washers, get some bungs made to suit... collapsing suspension cos u've flogged out a bolt is not good!

Hey thanks for the reply....

The coilovers arrived today- I picked up a set of Greddy Type-S (one rear leaking) for $200 which is a score!

I measured up the strut tops and was pretty gutted- the spacing is only about 5mm out.

The strut tops I have are fairly new so will just re-use them- I am going to pull a corner off over the weekend and have a looksee

Thanks for your help Cummis!

Seeing as you're in VIC, could you keep us updated on your progress with these, please? Who installs them, makes the shims, aligns the vehicle afterwards & how much height adjustment you end up with, etc.

Thanks.

from the look of those coilovers, I reckon you're going to struggle to properly fit the smaller Magna lower bolts through them. you'll end up with a loose fit at the strut bottom unless you bore out the Magna hub holes and use the Evo bolts.

the DMS coilovers have a captive camber washer which Dan (Cummins) made in the right size for the Magna bolts.

if you have a sedan and are thinking about fitting Evo suspension you'll need something like these for the rears:

Thanks- yeah i'm out those ways for work a couple of times a week....

King lows in rear, and super lows in front. It's still 120mm off the ground at the front, so can drop it another 1" at least. If I get the damper and rebound sorted properly, hopefully I wont have to worry about it scraping on the ground, or bottoming out, with it looking nice and low. The gap between the front tyre and the guard is killing me the most at the moment. It doesnt help that i'm only running 225x40x18's but that's what I had lying around so ended up using them.

I might drill the hub holes out to accommodate EVO sized bolts. I have also found a shop in North Melbourne (Champion) that have a 1 piece, 1mm shim that I can drill holes in for the EVO sized bolts aswell.

Time is the biggest killer for me at the moment- working 7 days this week but will keep you guys updated as to my progress....

Hey mate, you wouldnt have a drawing or measurements for those rear spacer things?? I wouldn't mind having my fabricator contractor at work make me a few of these.
