Button clutches are supposed to be hard on the drive train and a pain to drive around town. Madmagna will pop in any time now and set you right. Heavy duty, standard clutch I would imagine.

heavy duty clutch would be the best for the purpose here. depends on what type of button your after, but they can make the car very very undrivable, and put extra strain on the running gear.
to get a heavy duty pressure plate clutch plate with throwout bearing should cost you about 500 to your door from one of the sponsors, or madmagna

edit: as above, beat me to it lol

im in the same boat as my clutch is now slipping down to first and second gear ive been looking into the extreme heavy duty and ceramic buttons clutches as can get them for around the 700mark also considered the exedy range from mal as im getting a motor off him next week.

Depends on how much you want to spend.

If your going to go to something extreme then you should consider machining your fly and upgrading your pressure plate. For the price though, a clutch through Mal will be your best option.

For instance though I did run an 8 puck Extreme Streetwise racing clutch in my TR with a lightened fly wheel and some stupid ammount pressure plate and I found it fine for driving and 4 years later the clutch was still strong.

Your retail on a clutch like that from memory was around the 800 - 1000 bracket, though I had a contact there and got it for only $450.

I put in the Exedy HD.. it certainly wasn't cheap but Magna clutches are basically not cheap, they pretty much start at $500 and can go up to about $800 depending upon brand and shipping. I wanted the HD as (1) didn't want to have it overheat so quickly on the drags and such, and (2) I knew if I didn't get the HD, it would annoy me! MadMagna said one of the guys that drives his pretty hard just has a 235mm standard one and doesn't really have slipping problems os they are OK but as I said, if nothing else it would annoy me for not getting it :P

Your 3 main choices I am aware of are Xtreme Clutch (http://xtremeclutch.com.au/), Exedy (http://www.exedy.com.au/) and Mitsubishi OEM (which is apparently basically an Exedy anyway.. but the exedy has 25% more clamping force they say [the non HD one]).. the Xtreme seems to be around $550 before shipping.. the Exedy HD cost me $716 including shipping from MadMagna but they've dropped in price a little now, and you save about $150 if you go the standard version. He has a thread about that http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74076.

I went for the Exedy HD - and i got the 240mm which also required machining my flywheel with a step to fit it (part of why the cost can go up a bit, cost me an extra $40 or so to do that.. see here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52699&highlight=DIY+clutch)).. I've found it pretty good.. it's definitely quite quick/hard on the take up but isn't annoying to drive.. the other crazyness was when I first did it was so light on the clutch it wasn't funny i could almost blow the clutch pedal to the floor, but it did stiffen up a bit after a while.. a couple people have told me they had the same experience. Might be to do with the lube we put on the clutch fork slowly wearing off a bit. I also extensively cleaned out all the dust from the bell housing, as quite a bit builds up and you don't want it messing up the clutch/getting in the middle.. there is a couple breathers but it doesn't really let the dust out, and once its replaced it's going to be together for a long time.

For fitting I would expect between about $300 and $600 depending upon the mechanic, if they've done one before and if you get the flywheel machined (definitely, definitely recommend you do that) and if you need the step... there's a great DIY guide here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69080&highlight=clutch).. the most complex part is getting the thrust bearing off really.. that can be a bit confusing and hard.

Of most note, pretty much everyone on these forums seems to have an Exedy and they seem happy with them. Thats mainly why I went with it.

Good luck. :)

Okies, I am here lol

If you are going FI down the road, i would look at the exact same as Lathiat has purchased, you need to machine a step into the inner flywheel, is 5mm acorss by 3mm deep to clear the rivets

The issue is that the 240mm clutch is actually made for the Ralliart which has a larger centre, is the same size as the Evo set up. This will take the forced induction with no issues while still as Lathiat has advised is easy to drive in traffic

The issue with button clutches is they are very hard on a STD flywheel, both our Evo boys agree that button is not good for street use and I agree 100% here. Over the years I have seen some flywheels totally destroyed in short time with everyday use in traffic with ceramic and you should see what a brass button does lol

Either way, I should be able to look after you regardless of what set up you are after, my main deal is with Exedy however my supplier also does a range of extreme use clutches for drag cars etc so getting something more would not be an issue but I really think it would be big overkill and make the car a real pig to drive anywhere but on the race track
