JB, Strathfield, etc are all the wrong place to be if you don't know what you're doing; they will not offer you good advice at all. They are only good for when you know what you want, and stick to only what you want and bargain them down.

i was never a real fan of ANY car audio shops, especially Strathfield, Car Toys, AutoBarn etc... but i have to admit Tonkins restored my faith! :-) i spent about $3K there a week or 2 ago and they're service was EXCELLENT, didn't try to sell me any particular brand at all, just what i thought was good!

Modesty (or lack of it), is one of the biggest issues that most car audio shops have to understand; just because people are new to car audio does not mean they're stupid.

Remember we all started somewhere. Hell, I have a list of qualifications as long as my arm but I still remember starting out with a deck and 6x9's. Too many people forget that they're only human too and don't know everything. :(

I don't know if you guys have them over east but be vary weary of Audiocom, I will NEVER EVER step foot in one of their store again in my or the next lifetime. Long storey but HELL NO lol

I've spent a bit of money and JB HiFi in Eastland and never had a problem with service. Tho i do agree do your research 1st and go knowing exactly what you want.

Don't forget its the sales person too, i bought my mb 6 splits and 6by9's off a dude at the kedron JB and he was pretty cool didnt want to sell me any brand, was just telling me what he could do for what and what he thought was good.

i just visited Northfied Nundah for the first time today. After a good 45 mins talking to the guy there I walked out with an Eclipse 4 channel amp for $400. I can now highly recommend northfield - they seem to sell only quality brands, at good prices :cool:

P.S. the amp goes off running my 12" sub and front 6" 3-ways :D

i probably dealed with the same guy i ended up buying a pioneer headunit and he didnt try to sell me anything different pretty cool guy he has like a 700 buck headunit in his car he showed me and its f***en awsome i was tossing up between pioneer and kenwood

Yeah mate, theres something about the city store... I've been there before in plain clothes, and they think i'm just some young guy and wont help me out. But then i'll walk in their on my lunch break from work (you know that building across the road with the big clock? :badgrin: ) and as soon as i go in there in a shirt and tie they start foaming at the mouth and wanting me to part with my cash!

My 'local' store at Macgregor seems to have a lot less attitude about them

yeah, tonkin's kick ass over all of the other car audio stores in adelaide....i remember walking into one of the other specialist places and being ignored for 1/2 hour. walked out, went into the nearest tonkin's store and was served as soon as i walked in :) since then i have dropped about 5k there

if you're in Adelaide, Tonkin's is the place to go

I tried shopping at JB HiFi in Melbourne while i was on vacation, i was in the store no longer than 5 seconds, when my phone rang, i went to walk out and the guy on the door decided i was a theif and he was gonna search my bag, i allowed him to do so, and missed my phone call because of it.

I dont reccomend shopping there, they have good stuff but their lack of customer service is appauling!

i havent ever really been treated badly at a JB store. Bris Car Sound is way worse!

I walked into Northfield for the first time ever last week, was served straight away by a very knowledgable guy who wasnt trying to sell me anything in particular, and who answered all my questions honestly. I walked out an hour later with a new Eclipse amp, went and installed it and went back the next day for them to tune it properly for me, free of charge.

I know where i will going when it comes time for me to upgrade :cool:

I'm lucky enough to have the NSW Rep of CAA as a mate, so he helped me choose what I wanted (FYI, tight budget, clear sounding system). So when it was time to buy, I just said what I wanted (this is about my deck, not the speakers) and without being rude, didn't enter into any other discussion about it. I just simply said "Sorry mate, this is the only one I want, thanks" and it was all good.

sorry dude, i gotta disagree with you on this one, went in there when i was lookin around and just like Cm Magna 55, they took one look at me, saw i was only about 16 and wernt interested. but hey, it was their 2k loss
