I'm looking to replace all 6 spark plugs. Might as well do so while I've of got the inlet manifold off to replace the lower injector seals on the rear bank. I've searched the forums and couldn't find anything about replacement 380 spark plugs.
The stock 380 plugs are Bosch Iridium R6 FR8DI30.
My questions are:
Is this what Mitsu dealers still use when replacing plugs at the 105k service?
Seeing as Bosch don't list them any more other than as 'double platinum' (no longer Iridium), and the only place I can find which sells them is Trade Parts at $19.83 a pop, see here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bosch-Platinum-Fusion-Iridium-Spark-Plugs-4506-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem483a8b3101QQitemZ31021 9845889QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries
Would the latest Bosch Platinum Ir Fusion plugs be better? Although I can't find any listing for this plug for a 6G75. The Bosch Australia 2009/10 catalogue shows the FR8DI30 as the only plug for a 380.
What about the NGK Iridium BKR5EIX-11?
This plug shows in the US NGK catalogue as suitable for the US Galant 6G75.
A couple of sellers in Oz have them for $14 a pop + postage (PerformanClub & a Fleabay seller).
Amazon US list them for US$7.50 each but don't post to Oz.
So I'm inclined to go with the NGK.
Any views/thoughts/advice much appreciated.
KJ.

I'd go the NGK's thats what I have with the blower. Mine are Iridium 7 which I believe are the same as BKR7EIX. I'm guessing the number in the code is the heat range so I reckon you should have a BKR6EIX if there is such a creature??
I got mine for my 6G75 on e-bay for about $12 each......NGK G-POWER BKR6EGP Platinum.

Yep, can get the BKR6EIX-11 for the same price as the 5 from the same sellers.
The 6 is a 'colder' plug that the 5, and the higher the number the higher the performance of the motor it goes into (in general), see here:
http://www.ngk.com.au/sparkplug_tech.php#
So with S/C you go one range colder again, that's why you have the 7.
Just been to SCA to get some more oil (5 litres of Mobil1 5W-50 going for $57.87 a pop), and they have the Bosch FGR7DQI plug (the supa dupa top of the line Platinum Ir Fusion) in a six pack for around $100. Far as I can tell this plug will suit the 6G75 and the price is good, but I'll wait for more advice before I go that way.

I'll go the NGK way as i have very positive experience with NGK Iridium IX series spark plugs, used it on my LPG Territory(ZFR6FIX-11) and it solve my starting & hesitation problem. Stock plugs are Bosch double plat and it's just crap.
Got it too from Harold from performancelub.com

Yeah I personally went NGK Iridiums all round in my 3.5L (didn't see the point of changing the front ones all the time) .. as far as I know they are running fine! Def about $20 a pop though.

Yeah Kym go with NGK and 1 heat range colder with the 6's as you've gone for the leaner A/F tune at WOT and all will be good.
Cheers Dave

but it's $12.50 per plugs, hardly $5.50 each.

trex - it's a US page, the page you refer to is an Oz page. Yes, it's the cheapest in Oz but still a fair bit more than the US ones.
By my calculations the US ones are just under AU$5.50 each delivered.
I'll probably order them and if I do I'll let you know how I go.

Do update us if you ordered from them, but don't think international shipping will be cheap. total pricing might work out to be similar imo.

The pricing for International postage is provided with listing provided and total price is around $5.50 each delivered, will vary a little with US/Aussie flunctuations + eBay Paypal scams a couple of % extra than the exchange rate off tyhe buyer for foreign currency purchases too. Current rate about $1.122 Aussie for every US$.

Yah you are right, his price is seriously cheap but like all things cheap, service and shipping reliability can be a big issue, especially international shipping.
The American seller accumulate 21 Negative, 22 Neutral out of 2357 feedback in 12mth.
while our Aussie seller accumulate 0 Negative & 0 Neutral out of 247 feedback in 12mth, 100% positive.
For peace of mind deal, i would go for the Aussie bloke but if my budget is tight, might try the American.

OK, just ordered six of them from the el cheapo US Fleabay site.
Cost of the plugs = US$16.74
Shipping = US$13.39
Total = US$30.13
= AU$35.34
Works out at AU$5.89 per plug.
A bit higher than yesterday coz the Oz$ dropped a bit against the greenback overnight.
I'll let you know how I go.

Spark plugs rolled up 2.00 pm today, that's less than seven days from when I ordered them. Exactly what I ordered, right model & quantity, can't fault the service.

Fitted the new plugs this morning, should last 70,000k at least, engine running as stong as ever.
Thanks Al (Zero) for the heads up on the G-Power plugs, saved me a few dollars.

Mecha,
Stock 380 plugs are heat range 5, but I can't see any probs going to heat range 6 in a stock motor. As you say, maybe one of our resident boffins (DaveTJ?) can shed some more light.

BKR6EGP are gap 1.0mm slightly smaller then what our 380 need, you should get a -11 or 1.1mm type like BKR6EIX-11 for max power generation.

Interesting.
The BKR6EGP I have fitted are the same as those fitted by Al (Zero) to his modified 6G75 (6G75 block & heads, almost everything else 6G74). And as far as I know DaveTJ was one of the advisers on his build. So are they 'worse' or less suitable than the BKR6EIX-11 or not? I haven't noticed any drop in top end power. Again maybe DaveTJ can advise.
Checked the same US Fleabay site for BKR6EIX-11 (which are iridium tip as opposed to BKR6EGP which are platinum tip, otherwise no difference other than gap AFAICT), and the pricing for six is:
US$7.49 each x 6 = US$44.94
Postage to Oz = US$13.39
Total = US$58.33 @ current exchange rate of .852 = AU$68.46
Not a bad price.

Yeah, just get the 5's Mecha....kj & myself need the 6's cause they suit our "tunes" better. They're a good plug and for the $'s, even better. I'd be happy to pay more for better but these are as good as any really.

Question for Al (Zero).
Ignoring the different gap, are the BKR6EIX-11 any better than the BKR6EGP? They are about twice the price. Put another way does an iridium tip out-perform a platinum tip, or is it simply a case that iridium supposedly lasts longer / degrades less quickly than platinum? AFAICT the only real reason for platinum or iridium tips is longevity, so that for example Magna V6/380 owners save time/money removing the intake plenum to change the rear bank plugs. They don't out-perform copper tipped plugs at all, they just last longer?
KJ.
Tbh i cant remember the reason, but my engine builder prefered platinum over iridium.....i'll ask!

Differences are with the ground electrode. The G-power has normal shape ground electrode while the Iridium has taper edge ground electrode, this taper edge design will increases flame kernel expansion and increase the spread of combustion/explosion.

Nah, too much hassle to get the intake plenum off again to get at the rear plugs!
But thanks trex101 for the pics & explanation. Although it could just be marketing hype.

I used MN119942 or BKR6ETUB these plugs negate the voltage flashover and failure of NGK PLATINUM OEM plugs due to increased firing resistance to over the limits of the insulation,in COP situations, more stabler idiling and smoother response and will run the 100k. And there not expensive.

Seems like overkill Mecha, the NGK platinums are just as good at less than half the price & no-one has a bad word to say about them, but there seems to be mixed feelings about Bosch plugs.
